Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Compliance Education
- Develop, implement, and continuously enhance a comprehensive enterprise-wide compliance education, training, and outreach strategy.
- Establish standardized compliance education programs that align with organizational priorities and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Monitor changes in federal and state legislation, accreditation standards, and regulatory guidance, ensuring timely updates to educational content and training requirements.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of compliance education initiatives through metrics, reporting, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Determine required compliance education for all workforce roles to ensure organizational adherence to evolving regulatory expectations.
Regulatory Compliance & Program Oversight
- Ensure compliance education programs align with applicable requirements, including:
- Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
- National Institutes of Health (NIH)
- Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP)
- State licensing and regulatory agencies
- Privacy and confidentiality regulations
- Institutional policies and accreditation standards
- Coordinate implementation of education related to new or revised regulatory, billing, privacy, research, and accreditation requirements.
Billing & Documentation Compliance
- Provide strategic oversight for education supporting compliant billing and documentation practices.
- Ensure educational programs address:
- Teaching physician supervision requirements
- Resident and fellow documentation standards
- Attestation requirements
- Time-based billing
- Learner participation in patient care
- Collaborate with Revenue Cycle, Finance, Compliance, and operational leaders to ensure educational initiatives align with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer requirements.
- Provide guidance regarding supervision standards and documentation practices that support compliant reimbursement.
Research & Academic Compliance
- Lead compliance education initiatives supporting clinical research and academic programs.
- Ensure education addresses:
- Human subjects protection
- Informed consent requirements
- Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
- CITI training
- Federal research regulations
- Partner with Research Administration, Legal, Compliance, and academic leadership to ensure education aligns with institutional policies and regulatory expectations.
- Provide oversight for learner participation in research activities to ensure appropriate supervision, documentation, and regulatory compliance.
Policy Development & Governance
- Develop, review, and maintain policies, procedures, and educational standards related to:
- Compliance education
- Billing and documentation
- Privacy and confidentiality
- Research compliance
- Promote consistent documentation practices and appropriate record retention across the organization.
Collaboration & Organizational Leadership
- Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, physicians, faculty, researchers, and operational leaders regarding compliance education and regulatory requirements.
- Lead multidisciplinary committees, workgroups, and organizational initiatives focused on compliance education, billing integrity, research oversight, and regulatory readiness.
- Deliver education and consultation to leaders and staff regarding compliance expectations, emerging regulations, and organizational best practices.
- Foster collaborative partnerships across clinical, research, academic, compliance, legal, finance, and operational teams.
Additional Responsibilities
- Participate in departmental and organizational initiatives as assigned.
- Perform other duties as required to support departmental and organizational objectives.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare, or Legal Studies
Experience
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in healthcare compliance, privacy, or legal functions
- Minimum of 5 years of leadership or management experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in Business, Healthcare, or Legal Studies
- Juris Doctor Degree (JD) in Business, Healthcare, or Legal Studies
- Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS) through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
