The Chemist organizes and executes project testing with minimal direction in support of Performance Coatings Group. Responsibilities will include organizing testing, completing performance testing, and generating reports on results. Must be able to coordinate multiple projects/timelines simultaneously. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining test equipment and supplies, training others on lab techniques, and film test protocols. This position will report to the Testing and Certification R&D Senior Group Leader.

This role is not hybrid and will be located at Sherwin-Williams Morikis Global Technology Center located at 6745 Miller Road, Brecksville, OH 44141.
• Comply with the ISO 17025 practices and how they apply to the Testing & Certification group with regards to training, documentation, audits, testing protocols, and data reporting.
• Independently leads multiple projects or rushed requests, that require a high amount of testing accuracy and attention to detail and provides test data and reports to project submitters.
• Strong ability to communicate timelines and meet deadlines.
• Responsible for moderately complex project work. Typically, projects with a variety of tests, new to the laboratory, or specification testing.
• May support non-complex projects with fewer tests or projects with greater panel volume.
• May need assistance supporting complex projects or new specifications but generally will not need direction from management.
• Support or lead a quality initiative on the team and helps to facilitate continuous improvement of the quality programs.
• Support or lead an equipment process and ensure that instructions related to equipment operation, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance are adequate and identifies opportunities for equipment process improvements.
• Support troubleshooting and root cause investigations to identify risks and solve problems.
• Develop general knowledge and background of equipment processes and test methods.
• Displays strong, proactive, communication skills to facilitate collaboration with internal customers (R&D chemists, sales, and marketing) and external vendors.
• May mentor, train, or act as resource to support other team members as needed.
• Help to support management in maintaining the overall budget and may provide recommendations for new equipment purchases and identify possible areas for cost savings.
• Comply with all department and company policies and perform other duties as assigned.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future (e.g., OPT, CPT, H1B, EB-1,etc.)
• Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• PC skills; Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); and other applicable applications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• 1 year experience in a laboratory setting
• Experience operating a variety of laboratory equipment
• Experience troubleshooting or mechanical aptitude.
• Basic understanding of ISO 9001 or ISO 17025 requirements
• Familiarity with ASTM test methods and following SOP’s
