Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning/execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.

Job Description

We have an exciting opportunities within GE Digital | Grid Solutions for a Software Support Engineer to join a dynamic and innovative team! You’ll provide expertise in sustained customer success and growth in the post-sales customer lifecycle through training, professional services, technical support, renewals, outcome attainment, retention, expansion, and customer advocacy with a Digital focus. You'll also be accountable for the quality of own work, subject to direct operations supervision/prescribed work instructions/systems checking. Responsible for local operations planning/execution or is focused on execution of professional activities within a technical discipline. Functions with some autonomy but guided by established policies or review of end results.

The challenge:

  • Research and troubleshoot issues involving all aspects of the GE Digital solutions, including configuration, user interface, network and communication connectivity and performance, Cloud and on-premise component interoperability, data collection/storage, visualization, analytics, machine monitoring software and associated control systems, hardware infrastructure, and interfaces to enterprise systems such as ERP, PLM and Quality

  • Developing conceptual knowledge of professional discipline which may include support roles with specialized expertise or technical knowledge in broad area

  • Applies general knowledge of business developed through education or past experience. Understands how work of own team contributes to the area

  • Resolves issues using established procedures. Consults supervisor or more senior team members for issues outside of defined instructions/parameters

  • Collaborates with others to solve issues. For customer facing roles, develops strong customer relationships and serves as the interface between customer and GE. Exchanges technical information, asks questions and checks for understanding

  • Participate to on-call rotations, usually a week per month

  • On site work in Nydalen, Oslo. Partial remote work possible within 1hour driving distance. Work from home ~20%

Required qualifications:

  • This role requires advanced experience in the Services & Digital Implementation Services

  • Knowledge level is comparable to a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Software, or equivalent from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma with at least 6 years of relevant experience)

  • As an engineer, it is preferred that you possess experience in software support or software development for a comparable role

  • Your technical skills should include C++ (medium level)

  • Ability to draft technical documents

  • The ideal candidate for this position should exhibit exceptional communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently

  • Fluency in English both written and verbal, is a mandatory requirement. Norwegian nice to have

Desired qualifications:

  • International exposure is appreciated

  • Ideally, your technical skills include the following or equivalent:

    • Basic programming and software development knowledge

    • JAVA, Perl or Python languages 

    • Knowledge in RDBMS like Oracle, PostGreSQL, or SQL Server

    • Familiarity with OS such as Windows Server and Linux REDHAT

    • Exposure to web applications like JBOSS, Weblogic, Apache, and IE

    • Skills and practices in Agile and ITIL methodologies

    • Utilization of tools like ServiceNow, Jira, and Git.
