Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our RN Psych Acute, you will help adult patients facing mental health crises receive comprehensive and compassionate care so they can safely recover, manage their conditions, and transition back to their lives.

 

Everyday you will assess mental states, administer medications, and run crisis interventions. You will be expected to collaborate on comprehensive screenings, conduct critical risk assessments, provide vital preventative health education, and expertly coordinate care for diverse patient populations, leveraging technology to streamline processes.

 

To be successful in this role, you must combine robust clinical knowledge in adult psychiatry, technological proficiency, genuine compassion, strong communication skills, and an adaptable approach to learning and patient-centered care.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Comprehensive Psychiatric Assessment & Care Planning: Complete timely admissions, shift assessments, and discharge assessments, identifying psycho-social, spiritual, cultural, and learning needs, and developing individualized care plans for adult psychiatric patients.
  • Medication Administration & Monitoring: Administer medications for conditions like depression or schizophrenia, carefully monitoring for side effects and effectiveness, and documenting all related actions.
  • Crisis Intervention & Patient Safety: Proactively identify and address potential patient problems, including life-threatening situations and danger signs (e.g., self-harm, aggression), implementing de-escalation techniques and crisis interventions to ensure patient safety.
  • Therapeutic Support & Group Activities: Lead or assist with group therapy sessions and coping-skill activities, helping patients develop strategies for managing their mental health.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration & Documentation: Work closely with doctors, social workers, and therapists to establish treatment goals and ensure continuity of care, meticulously documenting all care provided and patient progress in medical charts.
  • Patient/Family Education & Discharge Planning: Provide preventative health education, instruct patients and families about illness management and treatment, and help plan safe discharge processes, including connecting patients with outside support.

Job Requirements

Required

  • 1 year of RN Experience required; new graduates are not eligible.
  • Current California RN License
  • AHA-BLS (American Heart Association - Basic Life Support)
  • AHA-ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
