Job Summary
 

The BioBank Laboratory Technician supports biomedical research by collecting, processing, and documenting human and animal tissue specimens. This role assists with patient consent, specimen transport, cell culture activities, laboratory animal handling, data management, and other research operations while ensuring compliance with established laboratory protocols and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
 

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Collect, label, and record biological specimens from mouse and human tissues.

  • Obtain necessary consent from patients at various clinics in the area.

  • Deliver and collect tissue kits from various hospitals and clinics.

  • Use molecular biology techniques with human tissues to establish cancer tumor models.

  • Prepare cell culture medias and maintain cancer cell lines including spheroid cultures.

  • Assist with ordering and maintaining supply of inventories.

  • Maintain written documentation and subsequent data entry into various databases.

  • Basic knowledge of computers with Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Observe, document, report, and record animal behavior and interactions, both normal and abnormal

  • General rodent handling and restraint capabilities to perform various surgical procedures.

  • Strictly follow all procedures necessary to maintain animal housing areas or isolator environments, including room or facility personnel entry and personnel protective equipment use.

  • Assist research lab personnel with other duties as needed or assigned.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
     

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
     

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelors or Associates Degree preferably in pharmacology, neuroscience, biology, animal science, or related science or successful completion of at least sixty (60) semester hours of college credit at an accredited college or university with a focus in a life science

  • Previous research experience with rodents or other laboratory animals; preferred but not required.

  • Previous experience with cell culture; preferred but not required.

The potential base pay range for this role, when annualized, is $35,900.00 - $74,800.00. The actual base pay offered may vary based on a number of factors including job-related qualifications such as knowledge, skills, education, and experience; location; and/or schedule (full or part-time). Dependent on the position offered, incentive plans, bonuses, and/or other forms of compensation may be offered, in addition to a range of health and welfare and/or other benefits.
