Job Summary:
The Fire Equipment Service Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, testing, and repair of fire detection and suppression systems onboard marine vessels, naval ships, and offshore installations. The role ensures compliance with maritime safety regulations and supports critical fire safety readiness in demanding marine environments.
This position requires hands-on technical expertise in marine fire safety systems and the ability to work independently or as part of a team in offshore or onboard conditions.
Key Responsibilities
Fire Equipment Maintenance & Servicing
Inspect, test, and maintain fire protection systems including fire extinguishers, fire detection panels, alarm systems, sprinklers, and suppression systems.
Service fixed firefighting systems such as CO₂, FM-200, NOVEC, foam, and water mist systems.
Perform refilling, pressure testing, and certification of fire extinguishers.
Troubleshoot and repair faulty fire safety systems and components.
Marine & Naval Compliance
Ensure all fire safety equipment meets IMO, SOLAS, and naval regulatory standards.
Conduct routine inspections as per classification society requirements (DNV, ABS, Lloyd’s Register, etc.).
Support vessel safety audits and emergency preparedness checks.
Installation & Commissioning
Install and commission fire detection and suppression systems on ships and offshore platforms.
Assist in system upgrades, retrofits, and new vessel construction projects.
Read and interpret technical drawings, piping diagrams, and system layouts.
Safety & Emergency Preparedness
Ensure strict adherence to safety standards and permit-to-work systems.
Participate in emergency drills and ensure equipment readiness.
Identify potential fire hazards and recommend corrective actions.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and certification logs.
Prepare compliance documentation for audits and regulatory inspections.
Update maintenance databases and submit service reports to management.
Required Qualifications
Education
Diploma/BE in Fire & Safety, Mechanical, Electrical, or related field.
Experience
3–6+ years of experience in fire equipment servicing.
Experience in marine, offshore, or naval environments preferred.
Background in shipyard or vessel maintenance is an advantage.
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of fire detection and suppression systems.
Familiarity with marine firefighting standards (IMO, SOLAS).
Ability to handle gas-based suppression systems safely.
Basic electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and compliance documents.
