OVERVIEW:
Explores and manipulates data, builds models, and employs other statistical methods to conduct advanced analysis to understand/predict relationships between variables and provide data driven insights to guide strategic business decisions.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Independently conduct exploratory statistics, mine and profile data to gain insights for use in advance statistical and quantitative analytics.
- Compile and combine data from multiple datasets into one or more datasets for analysis with common programming languages.
- Modify data warehouse as necessary; document and store approved code.
- Use common programming languages to conduct intermediate data manipulation and analysis with guidance from more senior team members. Track and report performance of portfolios/ campaigns. Identify deviations from expectations and explain variances.
- Conduct intermediate quantitative analysis to understand and quantify business problems leveraging statistical methods.
- Develop simple, but compelling visualizations to explore data.
- Provide guidance to less experienced analysts.
- Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
- Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
- Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
- Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
No supervisory responsibility.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years of related experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 7 years higher education and/ or work experience, including a minimum of 3 years related experience
- Familiarity with a common programming language
- Experience working in large databases
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
- 4 or more years related work experience in data analysis
- Intermediate skills in programming languages such as SQL, SAS, Python, Julia or Java
- Experience working with a statistical analysis software package
- Experience with one or more cloud databases.
- Experience working within an agile environment
