Associate Legal Counsel

Position Summary:  

We are seeking an Associate to support Cerity Partners’ legal department. The Associate Legal Counsel will help manage the legal department's shared inbox and provide legal support across a broad range of commercial and contractual matters, partnering closely with the legal department, compliance and other stakeholders. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented attorney to gain broad, hands-on experience supporting a fast-paced in-house legal team at a growing RIA.

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Review and negotiate a variety of contracts, including vendor contracts, NDAs, and other commercial agreements.
  • Provide legal counsel to advisors and other colleagues on client agreements and other legal matters.
  • Review legal process and coordinate with outside legal counsel as needed.
  • Provide support to the legal department on ad hoc matters, special projects and overflow work as needs evolve.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to New York bar in good standing.
  • 2-4 years of experience in a law firm or corporate legal department.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Prior in-house or law firm experience in M&A, general corporate, financial services, asset management, or wealth management a plus.

Skills and Competencies: 

  • Comfort working independently and prioritizing across a high volume of inbound requests.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong contract drafting skills, exceptional business acumen, and the ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly to non-lawyers.

Compensation Range:

$160,000 - $180,000
