Subsidiary Banking Coverage - Sub-Saharan Africa Associate (Relationship Management and Support) 

Join a high-visibility coverage team supporting multinational clients across Sub-Saharan Africa. You will own day-to-day client relationships while partnering closely with product, coverage, operations, and control teams to deliver integrated solutions. You will gain broad exposure across transaction banking and credit execution, helping drive growth and improve client outcomes from Johannesburg.  

 

Job summary

As an Associate – Sub-Saharan Africa Subsidiary Banking Coverage (Relationship Management and Support) in the Sub-Saharan Africa coverage team, you will own and grow a defined portfolio of multinational clients and serve as the primary day-to-day contact. You will coordinate across internal partners to deliver integrated financial solutions and a best-in-class client experience. You will also provide operational and execution support to subsidiary bankers through disciplined pipeline tracking, client servicing, onboarding, internal approvals, and adherence to Know Your Customer (KYC) and cross-border regulatory requirements. 

 

Job responsibilities

  • Manage a defined portfolio of Sub-Saharan Africa multinational clients, acting as the primary point of contact and owning day-to-day relationship management
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and internal teams to deliver high-quality client service and support portfolio management
  • Establish and maintain local client contacts and prepare accurate, timely briefing memos and meeting materials, including reviewing financial statements and summarizing investor presentations
  • Produce proposals, presentations, and pitch books to support client meetings and relationship deepening
  • Identify new business opportunities, build and manage a pipeline, and own growth of the client portfolio, including research on prospective client lists, market sizing, and wallet opportunity assessments
  • Stay current on relevant products, technology, and market trends (internal and external) to support proactive client dialogue and idea generation
  • Collaborate with local, regional, and global coverage colleagues and product specialists, partnering across Treasury Services (Payments), Trade (Payments), Client Service, Operations, Implementations, Know Your Customer (KYC), Legal, Credit, and other teams to optimize solutions, service delivery, and execution
  • Proactively manage client issues and queries with Client Service teams and own timely resolution, coordinating across stakeholders, and supporting ongoing relationship activities such as communications, meeting follow-ups, and service reviews
  • Support onboarding and ongoing relationship management to deliver a smooth and controlled client experience, including understanding and executing KYC responsibilities and cross-border regulatory requirements and preparing submissions for internal compliance, regulatory, and audit requests as needed
  • Arrange internal approval materials to support deal execution, including cross-border booking office approvals, credit requests, and pricing submissions
  • Lead new account implementation from a sales perspective, including creating initial system requests, attending client follow-up meetings, supporting implementation and execution of credit deals, maintaining internal reports and memos (account plans, relationship reviews, revenue tracking files), producing analysis and ad hoc reporting, and helping subsidiary bankers capture and track client calling efforts and ramp-up of new business mandates 

 

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills 

  • Honors degree (or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated experience in client coverage and relationship management, including supporting business growth and contributing to successful transactions
  • Relevant professional experience in Treasury Services sales, corporate relationship management, and/or credit
  • Fluent spoken and written English, with excellent communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel (quantitative skills) and PowerPoint, with strong attention to detail
  • Strong organizational, planning, problem-solving, time management, and analytical skills
  • Self-starter with strong work ethic and clear results orientation, able to operate independently and within a team while balancing short-, medium-, and long-term objectives
  • Demonstrated accountability for assigned tasks and deliverables
  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple transactions and processes concurrently across time zones and geographies, delivering against deadlines, client expectations, and business priorities 

 

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Degree specialization in Business, Finance, Accounting, and/or Economics
  • Outstanding academic credentials
  • Knowledge of South African financial and regulatory environments (for example, foreign exchange controls)
