About Rec
Think about the last time you tried to book a tennis court. Or sign your kid up for a swim lesson. Or find an open rec league that actually fits your schedule. You probably ended up on a website that looked like it was built in 2003 — or god forbid, filled out a piece of paper.
$3T is spent on recreation globally, and it's built on a completely fragmented system that's largely untouched by technology.
At Rec (recreation.ai), we're using AI to change that — reimagining how the world plays, participates in community, and gets active. Our vision is simple: more recreation for everyone. We sit at a rare intersection — a consumer product loved by everyday players and an enterprise platform trusted by the organizations that power recreation.
We're a small team with firepower. Our founders were among the first few hundred at Uber, then led teams at The Athletic and MasterClass. The rest of the team combines builders from Google, Microsoft, Strava, Hipcamp, and Airbnb.
People join Rec for two reasons: you want to build AI that gets people back in the real world, and you want to work with really smart people.
About the Role
AI is a core part of how we're building the future of recreation operations. Rec's AI, is designed to be a teammate that's deeply embedded in the core Rec platform so it can complete real staff workflows end-to-end, from finding a receipt to issuing a refund. You can read more about our approach at partner.rec.us/ai.
We're hiring a Product Manager to own Rec's AI strategy end-to-end. This person will lead our AI engineering pod and be responsible for everything from roadmap and prioritization down to prompt engineering and evaluation work. You'll set the direction for Seb and the broader AI product surface, work hands-on with engineers on behavior and quality, and make sure our AI teammates are reliable, trustworthy, and genuinely useful to recreation staff.
What You'll Own
Own the AI product roadmap — from high-level strategy to day-to-day prioritization
Lead and partner closely with Rec's AI engineering pod
Drive prompt engineering and evaluation work to improve agent quality and reliability
Define and evolve the framework for how AI agents behave, escalate, and earn staff trust
Partner cross-functionally with design, engineering, and GTM to ship AI features that solve real recreation workflows
Who You Are
5+ of product management experience, ideally including AI/ML-powered products
Hands-on experience with prompt engineering, evals, or working directly with LLMs in production
Strong technical fluency, comfortable in the details with engineers, not just at the roadmap level
A track record of shipping and iterating on AI features based on real usage and quality signals
Excellent judgment on when AI should act autonomously vs. escalate to a human
Bias toward action and comfort operating in a fast-moving startup environment
