Job Description

At Thermo Fisher Scientific, our Ion Chromatography & Sample Preparation (ICSP) division is building the next generation of laboratory instruments, and we're looking for an experienced Senior C#/.NET Developer to help shape the software behind them.

Make an Impact

This is a unique opportunity to join a strategic New Product Introduction (NPI) program focused on developing an entirely new platform for ion chromatography instruments.

Rather than enhancing legacy products, you'll help replace a platform built on more than 15 years of electronics with a modern, scalable architecture designed for the future. Working at the intersection of software and hardware, you'll develop the software that powers high-precision analytical instruments used by scientists around the world.

This multi-year program offers long-term stability and the opportunity to contribute throughout the entire product lifecycle—from architecture and design to validation and commercialization.

What You'll Do

Design & Develop Instrument Software

  • Design and develop software components that enable reliable communication, control, and data acquisition for laboratory instruments.
  • Build and maintain instrument drivers and low-level software components.
  • Translate product and system requirements into scalable, maintainable software solutions.
  • Develop using modern technologies including C# and .NET 10.

Drive System Integration

  • Collaborate closely with hardware, firmware, and systems engineers to define interfaces and integration points.
  • Support seamless integration between instrument software and higher-level applications.
  • Participate in technical design discussions and architectural decisions.

Deliver Quality & Reliability

  • Implement robust diagnostics, logging, and error handling.
  • Participate in testing, verification, and validation activities.
  • Follow secure software development practices and quality standards aligned with regulated environments.

Solve Complex Technical Challenges

  • Investigate and troubleshoot issues spanning software, firmware, and hardware.
  • Contribute to code reviews and continuously improve engineering practices and development tools.
  • Help ensure long-term maintainability, scalability, and product evolution.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong software development experience using C#/.NET (experience with .NET 10 is an advantage).
  • Experience developing software that interfaces directly with hardware, including device drivers, embedded software, or instrument control systems.
  • Solid understanding of modular software architecture and maintainable design principles.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols and hardware interfacing concepts.
  • Experience developing multi-threaded or concurrent applications.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across software and hardware interactions.
  • Experience working in cross-functional engineering teams including hardware, firmware, systems, and software.
  • Familiarity with structured development processes; experience in regulated or quality-driven environments is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • A passion for building reliable, high-quality software and continuously improving engineering practices.

Why Join Us?

  • Work on a true greenfield platform rather than maintaining legacy software.
  • Influence the architecture of next-generation scientific instruments.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams solving complex technical challenges.
  • Contribute to products that support scientific research, healthcare, and innovation worldwide.
  • Be part of a long-term strategic program with opportunities to grow alongside the product from concept to market.
