About the Role

The Jira Manager is responsible for the strategic administration, governance, optimization, and ongoing delivery of the Jira platform and related Atlassian tools across the organization. This role leads the design, configuration, and continuous improvement of Jira to support business workflows, project delivery, service management, software development, and operational excellence.

The Jira Manager serves as the primary owner of the Jira ecosystem, ensuring the platform is scalable, secure, well-governed, and aligned to business needs. This position partners closely with IT, PMO, Engineering, Service Management, and business stakeholders to drive adoption, automate processes, improve reporting, and maximize value from Jira and related tools such as Confluence and Jira Service Management.

What You’ll Do:

Platform Strategy & Governance

  • Own the overall strategy, roadmap, and operational health of the Jira platform.

  • Establish governance standards, administration practices, and configuration controls to ensure consistency, scalability, and compliance.

  • Define and maintain platform policies for workflows, permissions, issue types, schemes, dashboards, automation, and integrations.

  • Partner with leadership to align Jira capabilities with organizational priorities and transformation initiatives.

  • Evaluate new features, plugins, and enhancements to improve platform value and end-user experience.

Administration & Configuration

  • Oversee day-to-day administration of Jira, including projects, workflows, screens, fields, permissions, notifications, automation rules, and system settings.

  • Manage Jira configurations across business, technology, and operational use cases.

  • Ensure sound change control practices for platform modifications and enhancements.

  • Maintain system integrity, performance, and usability across all supported teams.

  • Lead platform upgrades, migrations, and release management activities as needed.

Stakeholder Partnership

  • Act as the primary point of contact for Jira-related business needs, enhancement requests, and platform support.

  • Work closely with stakeholders to gather requirements, translate business processes into Jira solutions, and prioritize platform enhancements.

  • Consult with business units on best practices for workflow design, project structures, issue tracking, and reporting.

  • Support cross-functional initiatives that depend on Jira for planning, execution, and visibility.

Process Improvement & Automation

  • Drive process optimization through workflow redesign, automation, and improved platform utilization.

  • Identify opportunities to reduce manual effort, improve service delivery, and streamline operational processes through Jira capabilities.

  • Implement automation rules and integrations that improve efficiency, data quality, and reporting consistency.

  • Standardize Jira usage patterns to support enterprise reporting and improved governance.

Reporting & Analytics

  • Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, filters, and metrics to support operational management, project delivery, and leadership visibility.

  • Partner with teams to define KPIs and reporting frameworks that improve transparency and decision-making.

  • Ensure data structures and platform configurations support meaningful analytics and business insights.

  • Provide regular reporting on platform usage, adoption, service levels, and enhancement progress.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop Jira administrators, analysts, or platform support resources, where applicable.

  • Coordinate with internal teams and external partners on platform support, enhancements, and issue resolution.

  • Set priorities and manage workload across support, enhancement, and strategic initiatives.

  • Promote knowledge sharing, documentation, and training across the Jira support model.

Support, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure appropriate access controls, security settings, audit readiness, and compliance practices are maintained.

  • Support incident resolution, root cause analysis, and problem management related to the Jira platform.

  • Maintain documentation for system configuration, administration standards, support procedures, and governance processes.

  • Monitor platform risks, dependencies, and technical debt, and proactively recommend remediation actions.

  • Participate in after-hours support or on-call escalation, if require

Who You Are:

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 6+ years of hands-on experience administering and configuring Jira in a business or enterprise environment.

  • 3+ years of experience leading Jira-related initiatives, platform governance, or people/project management responsibilities.

  • Experience supporting Jira across multiple business functions, such as IT, PMO, Agile delivery, service management, or operations.

  • Experience with Jira Cloud and/or Jira Data Center environments.

Skills

  • Deep expertise in Jira administration, workflows, schemes, permissions, issue types, screen configurations, custom fields, and automation.

  • Strong understanding of Atlassian ecosystem tools such as Confluence and Jira Service Management.

  • Experience translating business requirements into scalable technical solutions.

  • Strong problem-solving, process improvement, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Experience with reporting, dashboards, and operational metrics.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience with Atlassian marketplace apps such as ScriptRunner, Automation for Jira, Insight/Assets, Structure, Tempo, or similar tools.

  • Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, Kanban, ITIL, or service management frameworks.

  • Experience with platform integrations using APIs, middleware, or third-party connectors.

  • Experience leading Jira migrations, consolidations, or enterprise scaling initiatives.

  • Atlassian certifications or other relevant platform certifications.

  • Experience in global or multi-regional environments
