Associate - GIB, Metals and Mining
Job Description
What is the opportunity?
RBC are looking for an Associate to join the Global Mining and Metals Investment Banking team in London. You will be responsible for providing Investment Banking services (M&A, ECM, DCM and leverage finance) to corporate and private equity clients within the Mining & Metals sector.
What will you do?
- Lead and manage workstreams on M&A, equity financing and debt financing transactions, working closely in co-operation with local and global teams across the Mining & Metals sector
- Serve as a day-to-day point of contact for clients and counterparties on live mandates, supporting senior bankers in relationship development and deal execution
- Oversee the preparation of high-quality marketing pitchbooks and related materials, ensuring accuracy and strategic coherence
- Build comprehensive financial models and perform valuation analysis to support mandated deals and client presentations
- Conduct and supervise in-depth research and financial analysis
- Mentor and develop junior team members, providing guidance on technical skills and professional standards
- Contribute to sector coverage efforts by maintaining market intelligence, tracking deal activity, and identifying prospective clients and themes
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent with academic coursework in finance, accounting or a related quantitative discipline
- Notable experience in Investment Banking or Transaction Advisory (mining sector / M&A transaction experience)
- Demonstrated track record of executing transactions end-to-end, including managing workstreams, coordinating with external advisors, and delivering under tight timelines
- A strong understanding of the sector, including key players, strategic dynamics, and current industry challenges would be desirable
- Ability to independently build, audit, and present complex financial models and select appropriate valuation methodologies for sector-specific situations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proven ability to work effectively within collaborative, fast-paced team environments
- Experience supervising or mentoring junior team members
Nice to have
- CFA level 1, 2 or 3 or ACA
- FCA registered
