Staff Software Engineer, Cloud
About the Role:
We're looking for an experienced staff-level engineer to set the technical direction for a new Warsaw-based team that owns Redpanda Cloud's customer-facing journeys, including sign-up and authentication, account management, usage-based billing, payments, and cloud-marketplace integrations. You'll lead the architecture across these workstreams, take ownership of the systems that exist today, stabilize and deepen them, and then drive the product and technical roadmap that makes every customer interaction reliable, transparent, and trustworthy. You'll maintain a high bar for software in customer-facing systems, and partner across engineering, design, product, finance, and pre-/post-sales.
The Team:
You'll join a newly-formed small, cross-functional Cloud team based in our new Warsaw office that owns the services powering the customer-facing journeys at the heart of Redpanda Cloud. This is how every customer registers, manages their account, and pays for what they use. The team owns these critical workstreams:
Register / Sign-up / Sign-in
Account management
Usage-based billing (UBB) via Metronome
Credit-card management for self-service customers via Stripe
Cloud marketplace integrations (AWS, GCP, and Azure with more to come) for UBB, public offers, and private offers
The team is adopting ownership of these areas from the teams that built them, will come up to speed on what we have today, and then drive a product and technical roadmap that gives our customers confidence whenever they interact with our services. It's cross-functional and works closely with design, product, and finance. We hire for the skill mix across the team, not every skill in every person.
Everybody at Redpanda is reinventing how they work using the latest AI tooling and workflows.
You Will:
Lead the technical direction across the sign-up, marketplace, billing, and payments journeys on AWS, GCP, and Azure
Own the architecture for correctness-critical billing, metering, and payment flows, ensuring idempotency, reconciliation, and auditability
Drive multi-quarter product and technical roadmaps in partnership with product management, finance, and commercial stakeholders. Turn ambiguous product and commercial requirements into clear designs and executable workstreams
Lead the adoption of existing systems from other teams, assessing, stabilising, and planning evolution
Anticipate technical risk across the team's surface and proactively mitigate it
Set and uphold high standards for reliability, security, and privacy of customer PII and payment data
Raise the engineering bar, mentor the team, improve practices, and champion initiatives that lift operational excellence
Participate in the on-call escalation chain, reduce escalations and improve operational health
You Have:
Significant experience designing and operating large-scale, reliable systems in public cloud environments, and leading large technical projects end-to-end from design through execution and into production
Strong proficiency in Go (or comparable systems language with willingness to ramp)
A track record of leading large technical projects end-to-end, from design and planning, to execution and production operations
Enough frontend familiarity to own customer-facing UIs with design support (not a specialist)
Production experience using AI-assisted software development workflows (e.g. Claude Code, Codex, etc) to accelerate prototyping, delivery, and operations
Excellent communication; effective in a globally distributed, async environment; strong collaboration with product, design, finance, and customer-facing stakeholders
Strong Plus:
Depth in one or more of: Usage-based billing & metering (Metronome or similar), cloud marketplace integration (AWS/GCP/Azure marketplaces for UBB, public, and private offers), payments / Stripe, identity & auth
Building or operating SaaS billing/account platforms at scale
Nice to Have:
React / TypeScript for customer-facing UIs
Experience modernising inherited/legacy systems
Redpanda / streaming platforms as a user
