Position Summary
The Manager, General Legal will provide practical, business-oriented legal support to manufacturing operations and related business functions. The role will help the business manage legal risk, ensure compliance with applicable laws and company policies, support commercial and operational priorities, and partner with internal stakeholders across functions, legal teams and geographies.
Key Responsibilities
1. Manufacturing Operations, Regulatory and Compliance Support
- Provide day-to-day legal support to manufacturing operations, including advice on operational legal matters, regulatory requirements, internal policies and risk controls.
- Support compliance with applicable laws and regulations relating to manufacturing operations, including environmental, health and safety, product safety, labor and employment, and related operational requirements.
- Work with business and functional teams to translate legal and regulatory requirements into practical guidance and support implementation of appropriate policies, procedures and training.
2. Commercial Contracts, Supply Chain and Business Transactions
- Draft, review and negotiate contracts and business arrangements supporting manufacturing operations, including procurement, outsourcing, logistics, distribution, supplier, vendor and service provider agreements.
- Advise on legal issues relating to supply chain activities, sourcing, transportation, distribution, facility-related arrangements and other operational transactions.
- Coordinate with specialist legal counsel where needed, including in areas such as intellectual property, data privacy, trade compliance and other subject-matter legal issues.
3. Risk Management, Disputes and Stakeholder Advisory
- Identify, assess and communicate legal risks and provide practical, risk-based and business-oriented recommendations to business leaders and functional stakeholders.
- Support the handling and resolution of legal disputes and claims, including contract disputes, supplier/vendor disagreements, employment-related matters and other operational legal issues.
- Manage or coordinate external counsel support where appropriate and help ensure effective, timely and cost-conscious legal service delivery.
4. Legal Governance, Policies and Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Support legal governance for manufacturing sites and related business operations, including implementation of company policies, approval processes, documentation standards and compliance initiatives.
- Partner closely with business leaders and functions including Operations, Supply Chain, HR, Finance, EHS, Quality, Engineering and Compliance to support business goals while maintaining legal and ethical standards.
- Contribute to legal team initiatives, knowledge sharing, process improvement, reporting and training activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor degree or above in Law; PRC legal qualification or equivalent professional legal qualification preferred.
- Solid legal experience gained in a multinational corporation and/or reputable law firm, preferably covering legal support to manufacturing operations.
- Ability to advise senior stakeholders with practical, risk-based and business-oriented legal recommendations.
- Strong communication, project management and stakeholder management skills; able to work across functions, legal teams and geographies.
- Fluent written and spoken English and Chinese.
Preferred Experience
- Experience supporting manufacturing, industrial, engineering, supply chain or operational business environments.
- Familiarity with operational legal areas such as EHS, product liability, labor and employment, real estate/facility matters, dispute management, data privacy or intellectual property coordination.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and provide clear legal guidance in a fast-paced business environment.
