Job Summary
The Corporate Responsibility Officer (CRO) is responsible for establishing and executing KeyBank's community engagement strategy and upholding the bank's local reputation. The role focuses on maintaining Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) regulatory ratings and compliance, while building relationships with community-based, charitable, and non-profit organizations. The CRO is a member of the market leadership team and advises senior management on emerging CRA issues.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and execute local community engagement plans aligned with CRA and Community Benefits Plan (CBP) goals.
  • Identify critical community needs and mitigate reputational risk.
  • Build partnerships to support CRA-eligible lending, investment, and financial education.
  • Serve as KeyBank’s external-facing advocate and liaison in the community.
  • Monitor CRA performance and collaborate with business lines to improve outcomes.
  • Participate in the Community Investment Committee and market planning initiatives.
  • Align efforts with CRA Data Analytics, ESG, and Sustainability teams.
  • Coordinate with the KeyBank Foundation to align philanthropic investments with CRA goals.
  • Partner with LOB leaders to inform market strategies and address reputational risks.
  • Support marketing and communications efforts to promote community impact.
  • Identify business referral opportunities and educate community leaders about KeyBank.
  • Participate in branch strategy and advocate for CRA knowledge sharing.
  • Lead or support local initiatives, DEI efforts, sponsorships, and employee volunteerism.

  • Complies with all KeyBank policies and procedures, including without limitation, acting professionally at all times, conducting business ethically, avoiding conflicts of interest, and acting in the best interests of Key’s clients and Key.


Education

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent experience (required)
  • Bachelor's Degree (preferred)


Work Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in banking, financial services, or community development. (required)


Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with community-based, charitable, and nonprofit organizations.
  • Deep understanding of the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), Community Benefits Plans (CBP), and related compliance frameworks.
  • Develop and implement local engagement strategies aligned with corporate goals.
  • Capture and communicate the impact of community investments using standardized frameworks.
  • Work closely with lines of business, marketing, philanthropy, ESG, and HR to align efforts and share insights.
  • Identify and mitigate reputational risks through proactive community engagement.
  • Ability to lead CRA initiatives from planning through execution.
  • Represent the organization in public forums and community panels.
  • Analyze and interpret data to inform strategy and demonstrate impact.
  • Navigate diverse communities with sensitivity and inclusivity.
  • Use digital tools for community outreach, reporting, and storytelling.

Physical Demands

  • General Office - Prolonged sitting, ability to communicate face to face in person or on the phone with teammates and clients, frequent use of PC/laptop, occasional lifting/pushing/pulling of backpacks, computer bags up to 10 lbs.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This position is eligible to earn a base salary in the range of $71,000.00 - $125,000.00 annually. Placement within the pay range may differ based upon various factors, including but not limited to skills, experience and geographic location. Compensation for this role also includes eligibility for incentive compensation which may include production, commission, and/or discretionary incentives.
