A Day in the Life
This is an exciting opportunity where, as a Neuroscience Technical Consultant, you will provide specialist technical and clinical case support across the Medtronic Neuroscience portfolio in South Africa. The role will focus on supporting Cranial, Spine, ENT, Pelvic Health and Neuromodulation procedures where Medtronic products and technologies are used, including Medtronic Navigation and O-arm support, in-theatre support, product preparation, troubleshooting, customer education and collaboration with Sales Representatives to accelerate safe and effective therapy adoption. The territory to be covered is within the Vaal and Potchefstroom area, with exact customer and account details to be shared at a later stage in therecruitment or onboarding process.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
- Support revenue growth, therapy adoption and market share across Cranial, Spine and ENT, with focus on Navigation and O-arm technologies.
- Provide in-theatre technical support including device setup, equipment checks, workflow guidance, troubleshooting, documentation and post-case follow-up.
- Support Cranial procedures such as tumur craniotomies, cranial biopsies, shunt cases, transsphenoidal, skull base and trauma procedures.
- Support Spine procedures including open and minimally invasive surgery, fusion, deformity, trauma and navigation-assisted cases using O-arm and implant sets.
- Support ENT procedures including sinus, skull base, otology, thyroid, parathyroid, head and neck cases using navigation, nerve monitoring and powered instruments.
- Deliver on-site education, consulting and product demonstrations, and build strong relationships with healthcare professionals and accounts.
- Provide technical expertise to sales teams and support sales and marketing activities through training, installations and customer support.
- Maintain strong product knowledge and manage field inventory through stock monitoring, cycle counts and return of expiring products.
- Complete weekly Salesforce reporting and ensure all activities comply with quality, EHS, hospital and regulatory requirements, with around 60% travel including national case coverage when needed.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing, Biology, Life Sciences, Biomedical Science/Engineering or related field.
- 1-2 years’ experience in a theatre, clinical case-support, scrub technician, theatre nursing or medical device technical support environment, with proven ability to support Cranial, Spine and ENT procedures involving Medtronic Navigation, O-arm imaging or comparable technologies.
- Solid understanding of the South African theatre environment, Cranial, Spine and ENT workflows, sterile field protocols, radiation safety, Navigation and O-arm set-up requirements, implant logistics, consignment stock processes and the importance of compliant interaction with healthcare professionals.
- Familiarity with Theatre environment: Sterilization and radiation protocols.
- Flexibility, dedication, hands-on working approach with ability to present technical know-how.
- English knowledge (B2 and above).
- Valid South African driver’s licence and willingness to travel regularly, including early-morning, after-hours and national case support when required.
- Any experience as Theatre Technician is highly preferred in this role.
