Project Engineer Associate
Job Description
Contingent upon contract award to BAE Systems Space & Mission Systems (SMS) and subsequent task orders.
The BAE Systems SMS Cryogenic team is seeking an Associate Project Engineer for Cryogenic Systems. In this role, you will be accountable for managing and delivering a defined and agreed upon scope of work that meets requirements and cost/schedule commitments.

What You’ll Do:
- Represent the team in technical discussions, and able to guide the technical decisions and make risk-based decisions.
- Generate time-phased staffing and material estimates for assigned area of responsibility and manage to an agreed upon staffing.
- Manage low risk subcontracts.
- Learn and coordinate what is needed from other engineering disciplines.
- Learn how to effectively use BAE SMS standard processes and tools and adjust and adapt to program specific tools.
- Demonstrate commitment to job responsibilities, organizational goals, co-workers, and what's best for SMS; can be counted on to take initiative, show persistence, and display a sense of urgency to achieve goals.
- Organize tasks and data effectively, accurately scope out the length and difficulty of tasks, and prioritize and re-plan as needed to respond to changes; may also so set team priorities.
- Learn change, risk, and opportunity management.
- Ensure that products are completed on schedule and within budget.
- Perform control account manager duties.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
- May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
- May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 4 or more years related experience.
- Working knowledge of thermal, subcontract management, and specifications.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite, MS Project, DOORS.
- Experience using CAD software (such as: SolidWorks)
- Experience in spacecraft and/or precision aerospace electro-mechanical, and/or opto-mechanical flight hardware systems.
- Experience with cryo systems, cryocoolers, cryo-radiators, components and/or ground support equipment cryogenic/thermal design.
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage difficult conversations on topics such as: decisions, impacts to schedule, impacts to technical performance, and impacts to cost.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Advanced degree is preferred.
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $97008 - $164914

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
