Lead Marine Gas Turbine Inspector (MGTI)
Make meaningful contributions that fuel critical outcomes for some of the most complex government, defense, and intelligence projects. Join GDIT as a Lead Marine Gas Turbine Inspector (MGTI) for a career where your growth is just as important as the mission you support.
MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT
As a Lead Marine Gas Turbine Inspector (MGTI), the work you’ll do at GDIT will be impactful to the Commander, Naval Surface Forces, Pacific Fleet mission. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the readiness, safety, and operational reliability of gas‑turbine‑powered ships by elevating engineering standards, improving inspection accuracy, and strengthening propulsion‑system proficiency across the fleet.
● Lead/Manage/Support teams of propulsion and engineering SMEs in executing detailed marine gas turbine inspections, assessing material readiness, and validating propulsion plant performance. Support fleet commanders by identifying system deficiencies, verifying compliance with maintenance standards, and guiding ships toward improved propulsion reliability that directly enhances operational availability.
● Collaborate with ship engineering teams, maintenance staff, ISIC/TYCOM representatives, and fleet technical authorities to coordinate inspections, exchange engineering findings, and align propulsion system improvements with command readiness objectives. Engage with Gas Turbine Inspectors, Engineering Officers of the Watch, and ship leadership to ensure consistent, fleet‑wide application of maintenance best practices.
● Drive improvements in gas turbine system performance by conducting root‑cause analysis, uncovering systemic propulsion issues, and recommending corrective actions that strengthen reliability across multiple ship classes. Apply decades of operational and supervisory engineering experience to help ships overcome complex propulsion plant challenges and adopt innovative solutions that enhance readiness and reduce maintenance burden.
● Utilize extensive experience with gas turbine main propulsion systems, auxiliary equipment, controls, and generators — supported by recent, hands‑on operational expertise — to conduct high‑fidelity inspections and provide advanced technical guidance. Apply deep understanding of depot‑level processes, configuration audits, and engineering watchstanding practices (including EOOW and PPWO roles) to evaluate plant health and improve engineering proficiency across the fleet.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED
Bring your marine engineering, propulsion, and inspection expertise along with a drive for innovation to GDIT. The Lead Marine Gas Turbine Inspector (MGTI) must have:
● Education: Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science (Associate degree, Navy technical training, or equivalent operational experience may also qualify)
● Experience: 5+ years of related experience, with over fifteen years of supervisory and technical leadership supporting Navy propulsion systems, engineering operations, or fleet maintenance programs (25+ years highly desirable)
● Technical skills:
- Expertise in gas turbine main propulsion systems, gas turbine generators, and associated control/auxiliary systems
- Extensive experience conducting Marine Gas Turbine Inspector‑level inspections on surface warships or military auxiliaries
- Strong understanding of Navy depot‑level maintenance processes, material condition assessments, and configuration validation
- Proficiency in propulsion system troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and engineering watchstanding practices
- Significant operational experience as EOOW, PPWO, Chief Engineer, or equivalent on multiple gas‑turbine‑powered ships
● Security clearance level: DoD Secret (or higher)
● US citizenship required
● Role requirements:
- Ability to lead and mentor multidisciplinary propulsion and engineering assessment teams
- Willingness to conduct shipboard inspections and assessments in waterfront, shipyard, and operational environments
- Travel to fleet concentration areas to support inspections and engineering engagements
- Strong communication and documentation skills for presenting inspection findings to fleet leadership
- Ability to collaborate with ship’s force, maintenance teams, ISIC/TYCOM representatives, and fleet engineering authorities
