Senior Assessor – Rail Assurance

The Role

DNV is expanding its European Rail Centre of Competence and is seeking an experienced Senior Assessor to support independent railway assurance and conformity assessment activities across Europe. The role focuses on helping clients demonstrate compliance, manage safety risks, and achieve assurance in complex rail projects. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver independent assessment and assurance services for railway infrastructure, rolling stock, signaling, and systems integration projects. 
  • Review technical documentation, safety evidence, compliance records, and engineering submissions against applicable standards and regulations. 
  • Prepare assessment reports, findings, recommendations, and certification documentation. 
  • Engage with clients, operators, infrastructure managers, assessment bodies, and regulatory authorities. 
  • Support proposal development, tender submissions, and customer presentations. 
  • Mentor junior assessors and contribute to competence development within the Rail Centre of Competence.

Success in the Role

You will deliver high-quality, independent assessments, provide trusted technical judgement, support business growth, and contribute to building DNV's reputation as a leading rail assurance partner.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or a related discipline. 
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in railway, metro, or tram systems. 
  • At least 5 years' experience in railway safety assurance, independent assessment, certification, verification & validation, or safety-critical engineering. 
  • Strong knowledge of European railway regulations and conformity assessment activities (AsBo, NoBo, DeBo, ISA). 
  • Proven experience applying CENELEC standards (EN 50126, EN 50128/EN 50716, EN 50129) and RAMS principles. 
  • Experience leading assurance activities on complex multidisciplinary rail projects. 
  • Professional registration, Chartered Engineer status, or relevant safety certification is desirable.
