Enterprise Agent Engineer
Who We Are
We're building OpenHands, the open source platform for cloud coding agents, helping engineering teams accelerate development, automate workflows, and bring AI-assisted coding into production environments.
As an Enterprise Agent Engineer, you'll build the system that makes agentic automation trustworthy at scale, including the automation server, the control plane around it (auditing, visibility, observability, governance), and high-quality agents and automations that run on it. You'll prove all of it on real engineering workflows, starting with our own, then harden what works into the product enterprises rely on. You'll join our Enterprise App team, partnering closely with other engineers and Product to develop automations and other agentic workflows.
What You'll Do
Build and evolve the automation server, the system that runs agentic automations reliably and at scale
Build the control plane around it: auditing, visibility, observability, and governance so enterprises can see and trust what their agents are doing
Build reference agents and automations including high-quality, reusable examples (code review, CVE remediation, Issue-to-PR, test generation, broader SDLC workflows) that establish best practices and seed adoption
Design agent workflows end to end: tool and API integration (MCP, skills, plugins), context and memory management, and multi-step orchestration with human-in-the-loop where it matters
Instrument and evaluate agents by measuring reliability, cost, latency, and outcomes and harden them into something teams can depend on
Work across Product, the Enterprise team, and Forward-Deployed Engineering to turn what works into durable product capabilities
What You Bring
5+ years as a software engineer building production systems
1+ years of hands-on experience building AI agents or agentic automations
Experience building backend or platform services: APIs, long-running systems, and the data and observability layers around them
Strong proficiency in Python and modern developer workflows (CI/CD, Git-based collaboration, developer tooling)
Fluency with the agentic toolkit: LLMs, prompt and context design, tool/API integration, MCP, evaluation, and workflow orchestration
An outcomes-driven mindset; you measure whether agents actually save engineers time, and iterate relentlessly until they do
Bonus: experience with auditing, observability, or governance/control-plane systems; AI developer tools (OpenHands, Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor); or significant open-source contribution
Why Join OpenHands
Competitive compensation: $170K–$225K base salary, plus bonus and equity
