Engineering Manager

Role Summary

The Engineering Manager is the typical entry point for people management in engineering at Alteryx. This role is accountable for delivering results through others rather than through individual contribution. The Engineering Manager leads a single team or a small group of related engineering teams, builds a healthy and inclusive team environment, and translates product and engineering strategy into reliable execution.

Key Responsibilities

People Leadership

  • Directly manages a single team or a few related small (2-5) engineering teams of individual contributors ranging from Associate Engineers (P1) up to Lead Engineers (P4).
  • Owns hiring, onboarding, performance management, compensation, promotion, and growth plans for individual contributors.
  • Structures roles within teams to optimize for productivity, career development, and delivery against team priorities.
  • Fosters a healthy, productive, inclusive, and psychologically safe team environment.
  • Coaches engineers on execution, collaboration, and technical decision-making.

Execution and Delivery

  • Owns delivery, quality, and predictability for the team's commitments.
  • Translates product and engineering strategy into actionable execution plans and priorities.
  • Manages team capacity, execution risks, and day-to-day tradeoffs to reliably deliver on time.
  • Ensures strong operational hygiene across planning, estimation, retrospectives, tech debt management, and quality practices.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Contributes input into product and technical discussions within the team's scope.
  • Builds trust with product and cross-functional partners through reliable execution.
  • Represents the team's needs, risks, and insights upward.
  • Focuses primarily on depth of impact within the team.

Technical Leadership

  • Provides tactical technical guidance and oversight for the team's work.
  • Reviews designs and implementation approaches to ensure quality, maintainability, and alignment with standards.
  • Partners closely with senior individual contributors on technical decisions and tradeoffs.
  • Ensures the team follows sound engineering practices and addresses technical debt.
  • Maintains enough technical depth to challenge decisions and support the team effectively.

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years leading delivery of complex, multi-system initiatives.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Demonstrated success as a senior individual contributor or technical lead.
  • Experience directly leading engineers, formally or informally.
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality software through others.
  • Strong foundation in people leadership skills, including coaching, feedback, and performance management.
  • Solid technical background relevant to the team's domain.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and execute within defined scope.

Director, Enterprise Applications (Marketing)

Position Summary

The Director, Enterprise Applications (Marketing) is responsible for leading the strategy, delivery, optimization, and support of enterprise applications that enable global Marketing organizations. This role partners closely with Marketing leadership, Marketing Operations, Finance, IT, Data & Analytics, and external vendors to define and execute a technology roadmap that improves marketing effectiveness, operational efficiency, customer engagement, and business outcomes.

The Director will oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of marketing platforms and business processes, ensuring scalable, integrated, and data-driven solutions that support demand generation, digital marketing, customer journeys, campaign operations, lead management, marketing analytics, and emerging AI-driven capabilities.

This leader combines deep business process expertise with strong technical acumen and a proven ability to lead cross-functional teams through transformation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute the enterprise applications strategy supporting Marketing's business objectives and growth priorities.

  • Partner with Marketing executives to understand business needs and translate them into technology capabilities and roadmap investments.

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to Marketing leadership on technology trends, MarTech innovation, AI opportunities, process optimization, and digital transformation.

  • Establish governance models for application investments, prioritization, architecture, and platform lifecycle management.

Marketing Technology & Applications

  • Own the portfolio of Marketing applications, including but not limited to:

    • Marketing Automation Platforms (Marketo, etc.)

    • Customer Data Platforms (CDP)

    • Digital Experience Platforms

    • Event and Webinar Platforms

    • Content Management Systems

    • Lead Management and Attribution Solutions

    • Marketing Analytics and Reporting Tools

    • AI-powered Marketing Solutions

  • Drive platform rationalization, adoption, optimization, and modernization initiatives.

  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies that enhance marketing effectiveness and operational scalability.

Business Process Transformation

  • Lead the design and optimization of end-to-end marketing business processes, including:

    • Campaign Planning and Execution

    • Lead Lifecycle Management

    • Demand Generation

    • Digital Marketing Operations

    • Customer Journey Orchestration

    • Marketing Attribution

    • Budget and Investment Tracking

    • Event Management

    • Content Operations

  • Identify opportunities for automation, standardization, and process simplification.

  • Ensure alignment between marketing processes and broader Revenue Operations workflows.

Delivery & Program Leadership

  • Lead complex cross-functional initiatives from strategy through implementation and adoption.

  • Manage application delivery teams, product owners, business analysts, architects, and external partners.

  • Establish scalable project and product management practices.

  • Ensure successful delivery of roadmap commitments within scope, budget, and timeline expectations.

Architecture, Integration & Governance

  • Ensure seamless integration across Marketing, CRM, ERP, Data Warehouse, Customer Success, and Digital Experience ecosystems.

  • Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture teams to maintain scalable, secure, and compliant solutions.

  • Establish governance for application security, data privacy, compliance, and operational controls.

  • Drive platform reliability, performance, and operational excellence.

Vendor & Financial Management

  • Manage relationships with strategic technology vendors and system integrators.

  • Negotiate contracts, licensing agreements, and service engagements.

  • Own application budgets, forecasting, and cost optimization initiatives.

  • Track ROI and business value realization from technology investments.

People Leadership

  • Build, develop, and mentor a high-performing team of application leaders and professionals.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, continuous improvement, and customer focus.

  • Develop organizational capabilities in product management, process excellence, and digital transformation.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, Engineering, or related field.

  • 12+ years of experience in Enterprise Applications, Business Systems, or Digital Transformation roles.

  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing teams and large-scale enterprise initiatives.

  • Deep expertise supporting Marketing organizations and marketing technology ecosystems.

  • Experience leading implementations and optimization efforts involving platforms such as Marketo, Salesforce, or comparable technologies.

  • Strong understanding of marketing operations, lead management, campaign execution, customer journeys, and marketing analytics.

  • Experience managing enterprise integrations, data architecture, and cross-functional business processes.

  • Proven track record delivering strategic programs and business transformation initiatives.

  • Strong executive communication and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in SaaS, technology, or high-growth enterprise environments.

  • Knowledge of AI-enabled marketing platforms and emerging MarTech trends.

  • Experience with Agile product delivery methodologies.

  • Salesforce, Adobe, Marketo, or related platform certifications.

  • Familiarity with data governance, privacy regulations, and compliance frameworks.


Compensation:

Alteryx is committed to fair, equitable, and transparent compensation. Final compensation will be determined by various factors such as your relevant work experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location. 

The salary range for this role in the United States is $137,000 - $177,000.

Employees may also be eligible for a wide range of other benefits, such as a bonus or commission, medical, retirement, financial, wellness, time off, employee discounts, and others.
