Job Description
This position is for an experienced engineer, scientist, or physicist to provide part‑time engineering, technical review, and strategic consultation in support of capture activities and lifecycle‑gated milestone reviews. Required experience spans the full lifecycle of space‑based payloads, including architecture, design, manufacturing, test, space‑vehicle integration, early‑orbit operations, and calibration/validation.
In this consulting role, the selected applicant will partner with business development and capture leads on pursuit strategy; provide independent technical review for color teams and LCM reviews; and support early‑phase study efforts that mature into proposals. The consultant will also mentor junior capture and study/proposal engineering staff and present lessons learned from past campaigns.

What You’ll Do:
- Champion, support, and lead payload architecture development, leveraging heritage from multiple BAE Systems business units to deliver “best‑of‑BAE” solutions
- Provide independent, critical review of proposals as a color‑team contributor or lead.
- Consult on the analysis and assessment of remote‑sensing payload concepts and designs, including performance predictions and risk assessments.
- Mentor capture and engineering staff on architecture development, technical shaping of solutions, and capture strategy.
- Provide technical consultation for new IRAD concepts, technology development, and roadmap planning.
- Support SBU marketing and proposal development with payload concepts and architectural solutions that enhance customer mission success and strengthen competitive discriminators.
- Support customer interaction by contributing to RFIs, customer briefings, and technical discussions.
- Foster knowledge transfer of common architectural approaches, design reuse opportunities, product evolution, lessons learned, design‑to‑cost practices, and supplier continuity.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site three or more days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions:
- This is a part-time position.
- Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus 12 or more years related experience.
- Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- Demonstrated technical and strategic leadership in capture, proposal, and study efforts.
- Experience defining remote‑sensing payload solutions and architectures, including development and documentation of requirements (specifications, interfaces, CONOPS, environments, constraints, functions, information flows, etc.), with understanding of both focused and distributed sensing architectures.
- Strong ability to communicate using standard systems‑engineering languages and architectural diagrams.
- New‑business development experience, including customer interaction, briefing development, whitepaper authorship, and exceptional proposal writing.
- Knowledge of the customer base and competitive landscape for space‑based remote‑sensing systems.
- Experience with systems‑engineering methodologies used to develop architectures, systems, and payload designs.
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $173023 - $294137
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
Temporary employees generally are not eligible for BAE Systems benefits, but can elect to participate in the 401(k) savings plan. Temporary employees working 20+ hours per week are eligible for medical benefits, the employee assistance program, and business travel accident insurance.
