Job Description
The Associate Dispatcher is a training position for becoming a Distribution Dispatcher in the Duke Energy Florida's Distribution Control Center.
The job responsibility of the Associate Distribution Dispatcher is to complete The Dispatcher Qualification Program which typically takes between eighteen to twenty-four months. The goal of the program is to develop proficiency in all Distribution Dispatcher functions through the use of various training methods including the classroom, on-the-job training, and field experience.
The Distribution Dispatcher functions include operating the electrical distribution system in a safe and reliable manner; monitoring multiple computer applications for system alarms and outages; coordinating and directing switching activities for normal maintenance and power restoration; forming contingency plans to mitigate consequences and implementing contingency plans should an event occur; and dispatching service level work orders to field resources.
The position requires a two part pre-employment testing:
- System Operator Power Dispatch test (SO/PD)
Progression through the hiring process will be contingent upon the SOPD test recommendation, and a formal interview.
Basic/Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent and must meet one of the following criteria:
Journeyman lineman
Journeyman electrician-substation
System Protection & Control Technician (Relay Tech)
5 years of distribution, transmission, production, or power-utility related experience
3 years distribution transmission, production, or power-utility related experience and Associate’s Degree in related field
1 years distribution transmission, production, or power-utility related experience and Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
Desired Qualifications
Ability to comprehend one- line and three-line diagrams
Experience with SCADA and OMS applications
Must be able to work in a high paced, rapidly changing environment
Specific Requirements
Available to work days, nights, weekends and holidays; rotating shifts
Travel Requirements
5-15%
