Job Description Summary
This position works out of our Abbott Park, IL location or Willis Tower.
The Legal Invoicing and Outside Counsel Management Analyst is responsible for business processes related to external disbursements and Outside Counsel Management activities. This includes the development and effective utilization of Abbott’s ebilling system for payment processing, financial analysis, and support of Legal spend objectives. This role will help advance Legal Operations modernization efforts by supporting the thoughtful integration of automation and AI-enabled capabilities into key processes.
Primary Responsibilities
- Drives all business processes and collaborates with team members as necessary to support Legal/OEC disbursements and analytic activities, including:
- Conducts financial analysis and reconciliation tasks using Abbott’s matter management/ebilling system
- Provides ebilling and matter management expertise to colleagues across all levels of the Legal Division, including senior leaders, in addition to external law firms/vendors
- Leads assessment, establishment and documentation of key Legal invoice review and approval processes to promote compliance with Abbott’s billing guidelines streamline/improve processes
- Maintains strong relationships with Accounts Payable, Legal Technology Team, Abbott’s ebilling vendor, Outside Counsel Management, and various key stakeholders to support efficient billing and analytical processes and provide system support, as needed (e.g., system upgrades and migrations)
- Develops key operational metrics and data analytics in Abbott’s ebilling system
- Partners with Legal Finance to maintain alignment regarding critical financial processes to effectively support division objectives
- Takes initiative to identify and escalate issues, as appropriate, lead development of timely issue resolution processes
- Support the development of automation and AI-enabled solutions
- Provides support for Abbott’s Outside Counsel Management function, including:
- Demonstrates strong understanding of Outside Counsel Management operations and provides support as needed
- Leads new vendor/law firm ebilling set-up and onboarding processes
- Maintains electronic timekeeper records and rate information as well as assisting with annual rate increase process
- Assists with and supports other Outside Counsel Management responsibilities and initiatives, including engagement letters and term negotiations
Additional Job Requirements/Qualifications:
- High degree of professionalism and ability to discreetly handle confidential information
- Consistent and strong attention to detail, good judgement, and strong time management skills
- Ability to work under minimal supervision on day-to-day activities as well as high visibility tasks and projects
- Ability to troubleshoot and escalate with independent follow-through to resolution
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Excellent collaboration, interpersonal, and customer service skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Working knowledge of legal ebilling systems/software preferred
- SAP and Symphony experience preferred
Education/Experience Required
Bachelor’s Degree or 5+ years equivalent experience

The base pay for this position is $61,300.00 – $122,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
