**Introduction**
To ensure delivery of Corporate Security’s enterprise mission, including the protection of IBM’s financial, physical, and intellectual assets. Support investigations, provide scale to executive protection, lead crisis response and security enablement across business operations, including acquisitions, divestitures and US Federal operations.
The US Regional Security Manager is a senior leadership role accountable for defining strategy, leading execution, and delivering IBM’s corporate security program across multiple critical U.S. locations. The role drives regional security in alignment with global strategy, leading a geographically dispersed organization of proprietary (armed and unarmed) and contract security professionals to protect IBMers, assets, and brands.
Operating in complex, high-visibility environments, this leader ensures consistent, high-quality security outcomes while enabling business priorities through influence, risk-informed decision-making, and operational excellence.
**Your role and responsibilities**
Regional Leadership & Strategy
* Drive and continuously refine security strategy aligned to IBM’s risk posture, business priorities and evolving risks.
* Lead, develop and mentor security teams across regions, fostering accountability and performance.
* Influence senior leaders on risk decisions, investments, and security posture.
* Contribute to enterprise security policies, standards, and continuous improvement.
* Manage regional security budgets, contracts, and resource planning.
* Optimize investments to balance risk reduction and operational efficiency.
Enterprise Security Programs & Corporate Mission Alignment
* Ensure alignment to Corporate Security mission across all regional activities, including.
* Protection of IBM’s financial, physical, and intellectual assets.
* Support to investigations in coordination with Legal and authorized functions.
* Be a force multiplier for the Executive Protection Team.
* Oversight of security requirements for sensitive or classified programs (as applicable).
* Integrate security as a business enabler across the full scope of IBM operations.
Multi-Site Security Operations
* Manage security operations across all critical U.S. sites (currently Armonk, Poughkeepsie, Yorktown, One Madison, Austin and Washington, DC).
* Ensure security delivery of access control, badging, and visitor management, surveillance technologies (CCTV, alarms, analytics) and manned guarding.
* Standardize processes while adjusting for site-specific risk and operational requirements.
* Drive continuous improvement using data, metrics, and operational reviews.
Armed Security Program Oversight
* Maintain the capability to operate in an armed capacity, in accordance with all regulatory and IBM requirements.
* Oversee the governance and execution of armed security programs, ensuring:
- Firearms licensing, training, and qualification compliance.
- Use-of-force standards and reporting.
- Lead response to critical or high-risk scenarios.
- Provide leadership in critical incidents requiring elevated security response.
- Ensure readiness for escalations and emergency conditions.
Risk, Threat, Intelligence and Crisis Management
* Proactively identify existing and emerging business and security risks and design calibrated responses that support business outcomes.
* Support regional risk assessments, vulnerability analysis, and mitigation programs.
* Act as a strategic decision-maker under pressure, driving optimal outcomes for IBM across stakeholders.
* Provide regional leadership during major incidents and crisis events.
External Partnerships
* Actively engage externally, track industry trends, and ensure IBM applies best practices.
* Develop and maintain strategic relationships with:
- Law enforcement agencies.
- Emergency management organizations.
- Public-private security partnerships.
- Coordinate intelligence sharing and joint incident response capabilities.
Leaders are expected to spend time with their teams and clients and therefore are generally expected to be in the workplace a minimum of three days a week, subject to business needs.
**Required technical and professional expertise**
* Extensive experience in corporate security, law enforcement, or military leadership roles.
* Proven success managing multi-site or regional security programs.
* Must possess a valid, unrestricted NYS/NYC Concealed Carry Firearm License (or maintain active, compliant federal LEOSA / HR 218 credentials). Must successfully pass regular firearms proficiency qualifications and background checks. Must also possess NY State Armed Guard License issued by NY State Department of State, Division of Licensing Services.
* Ability to obtain US Federal security clearances as required.
* Experience leading armed and unarmed security personnel.
* Strong knowledge of:
- Physical security technologies (e.g., access control, video systems)
- Risk and threat assessment methodologies
- Crisis and incident management frameworks
* Ability to lead in high-pressure, high-visibility environments.
* Strong executive communication and stakeholder management skills.
**Preferred technical and professional experience**
* 12+ years of progressive security leadership experience.
* Experience supporting corporate headquarters, campuses, or flagship facilities.
* Industry certifications (e.g., CPP, PSP, PCI).
* ICS / NIMS certifications or equivalent crisis management training.
* Experience with large-scale security transformation or modernization initiatives.
