The Iowa City Veterans Affairs Health Care System (ICVAHCS) is seeking a Part-Time, Physician (Hospitalist Section Chief) to join the Specialty Care Service Line at the VAMC in Iowa City, Iowa. The Hospitalist Section Chief duties involve leadership and administration of the Hospital Medicine section, direct patient care, and leading or supporting a range of facility performance measures to optimize employee engagement, patient experience, and patient outcomes. Serves as Chief of Hospital Medicine for the Iowa City VA Medical Center, providing leadership and guidance to assigned clinical and administrative staff, complying with Medical Center Policies and the Medical Staff Bylaws. Provides direct patient care in inpatient setting on both non-teaching and teaching services. Observes patient responses, testing procedures, use of equipment and review of patient records. Thoroughly documents examinations and histories using appropriate programs and forms. Provides education to other physicians and healthcare professionals regarding medical disorders and their treatments. Provides education, supervision, and mentoring to medical students and residents in medical disorders and their treatments. Participates in special duties as assigned by the Chief of Staff, Chief of Medicine, or Deputy Chief of Medicine, Iowa City VA Medical Center. Participates in quality assurance programs and chart reviews. Attends Medical Staff meetings and serves on Medical Staff committees, as assigned. Completes all medical records (including discharge summaries) in accordance with Bylaws, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff. Supervision: Direct supervisor is the Deputy Chief of Medicine. Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment): This position may be eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
