**Summary:**
We are seeking an experienced and attorney to serve as a Meta Associate General Counsel for Environmental and Health & Safety (EHS) matters. This role will be a legal expert responsible for delivering EHS legal counsel across the enterprise, supporting the management of compliance and risk in Meta's global operations, transactions, and supply chains.Sitting within Meta's People, Planet & Devices (PPD) team in the Corporate Compliance & Ethics team in Legal, this role will serve as legal advisor to Meta's diverse EHS functions—with a focus on our data centers, research and development labs, and network infrastructure. This role will help mature Environmental Health & Safety Management Systems embedded in various business units, advise on novel legal risks, manage environmental risks across a broad range of transactions, and defend against regulatory enforcement.The role requires deep expertise in environmental and occupational health and safety law, the ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical business guidance, and a proven track record of building trusted relationships with cross-functional partners at all levels of the enterprise.
**Required Skills:**
Associate General Counsel, Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Responsibilities:
1. Deliver environmental, health and safety legal counsel to support management of enterprise compliance and risk across Meta's global operations, transactions, and supply chains (e.g. data centers, offices, R&D labs)
2. Advise on legal and regulatory compliance matters including environmental legal obligations, permitting and occupational health and safety compliance
3. Assess and counsel on EHS legal risks related to transactions, including guidance on due diligence
4. Develop and execute regulatory enforcement defense strategies
5. Monitor and interpret regulatory developments across federal, state/provincial, local, and international jurisdictions to ensure ongoing organizational compliance
6. Develop and communicate compliance policies, standards, and processes that translate legal requirements into appropriate business practices
7. Support internal compliance investigations, risk assessments, and root-cause analyses related to EHS incidents and regulatory matters
8. Serve as the primary legal point of contact for 1st and 2nd line EHS compliance professionals embedded across business units
9. Partner with peer legal teams (Commercial Legal, Regulatory Legal, Reality Labs Legal) on matters involving EHS risk, environmental due diligence, and strategic permitting initiatives
10. Advise company leaders and public policy teams on significant environmental matters and with respect to emerging EHS legal requirements, providing training and interpretation of regulatory and permit requirements
11. Represent the legal function in EHS matters during audits, inspections, regulatory engagements, and executive reviews
**Minimum Qualifications:**

12. J.D. degree with active membership in at least one U.S. state bar
13. 10+ years of relevant legal experience, including substantial experience advising on environmental and/or occupational health and safety law
14. Prior in-house experience at a technology, manufacturing, infrastructure or similarly complex global enterprise (or equivalent experience at a major law firm with a focus on EHS regulatory counsel)
15. Deep knowledge of federal, state and local environmental and occupational safety laws and regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, RCRA, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act) and their international analogs
16. Experience in supporting and documenting risk assessments, audits, root cause analyses and standing up controls
17. Significant experience managing regulatory enforcement defense
18. Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, or advising on EHS management systems and compliance programs at enterprise scale
19. Proven ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into clear, practical guidance for non-legal stakeholders
20. Track record of building trusted partnerships across diverse cross-functional teams

23. Experience with environmental permitting (air, stormwater, groundwater), laboratory/research safety (chemical, radiation, process hazard safety) and EHS oversight
24. Familiarity with international EHS regulatory frameworks (EU, APAC, LATAM)
25. Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
26. Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
27. Knowledge of corporate sustainability reporting obligations and emerging ESG regulatory requirements
28. Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
29. Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
30. Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
31. Experience advising on EHS aspects of real estate transactions, construction projects, or infrastructure deployments (e.g., fiber, data centers)
**Public Compensation:**
$233,000/year to $313,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
