This role is part of Blue Origin corporate functions, providing centralized support across Blue Origin business unit teams, functions, and locations.Position Summary
Blue Origin is seeking an experienced Facilities Mechanical Design Engineer III to support the design, development, and construction of world-class aerospace facilities. In this role, you will lead mechanical engineering efforts across complex facility projects, providing technical expertise in HVAC, plumbing, fire suppression, and other critical mechanical systems. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including civil, structural, electrical, and process engineering disciplines to deliver facilities that support our mission of making space accessible.
Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design of new facility construction and renovation projects, including HVAC, plumbing, compressed air, fire suppression, and specialty gas systems
- Develop and review engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and design packages for compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements
- Serve as the Engineer of Record (EOR) on applicable mechanical system designs, stamping drawings and documents as required
- Manage relationships with external engineering consultants, contractors, and vendors throughout project design and construction phases
- Conduct site assessments, feasibility studies, and condition evaluations of existing mechanical infrastructure
- Provide construction administration support, including RFI responses, submittal reviews, and site observation visits
- Develop and maintain facility mechanical design standards, guidelines, and best practices
- Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal codes including IBC, IMC, IPC, ASHRAE, and NFPA standards
- Support commissioning and startup activities for new mechanical systems
- Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities for energy efficiency and operational reliability
- Mentor junior engineers and review their work products for technical accuracy
- Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to ensure designs meet long-term operational needs
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related engineering discipline
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in at least one U.S. state, with ability to obtain licensure in states where Blue Origin operates
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in facilities mechanical engineering
- Demonstrated experience in the design and construction of HVAC systems, including air handling units, chillers, cooling towers, boilers, and associated distribution systems
- Proficiency with mechanical engineering design and analysis tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit MEP, HAP, or equivalent)
- Experience managing projects through full design and construction lifecycle (concept through closeout)
- Working knowledge of applicable mechanical and building codes (IMC, IPC, ASHRAE 90.1, NFPA)
- Strong technical writing skills with ability to produce clear engineering specifications and reports
- Ability to work on-site in both office and active construction environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- Experience supporting aerospace, defense, industrial, or research & development facility projects
- Background in cleanroom HVAC design or other specialty environmental control systems
- Familiarity with process piping systems, including cryogenic, high-pressure, or hazardous fluid systems
- Experience with LEED, ENERGY STAR, or other sustainable design frameworks
- Knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) workflows and coordination processes
- Experience with commissioning (Cx) and retro-commissioning processes
- Multi-state PE licensure
Base Pay Range for:
WA applicants is $121,023.00 - $169,432.20Other site ranges may differ

Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
