OCI Incident Response

OCI Incident Response is the first line of defense for maintaining the high availability of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. We reduce the frequency, duration, and impact of customer-facing incidents through large-scale incident management, automation, and continuous operational improvement.

As a Principal Software Development Engineer, you will help define the future of incident management across OCI. You will design and build scalable platforms, automation, and agentic AI-driven solutions that improve how OCI detects, investigates, mitigates, and learns from service-impacting events. Your work will influence reliability across multiple engineering organizations and services.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and deliver scalable systems, services, and automation that improve OCI-wide reliability. 
  • Lead agentic and AI-powered solutions that accelerate incident detection, diagnosis, mitigation, and learning. 
  • Define architectural patterns, engineering standards, and observability practices that improve resiliency and operability. 
  • Lead complex cross-organizational initiatives with broad customer and business impact. 
  • Serve as a technical leader during critical incidents, driving systemic fixes and long-term improvements. 
  • Partner with senior engineers, architects, and service teams to raise the reliability bar across OCI. 

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience. 
  • 10+ years of software development experience. 
  • Strong proficiency in one or more modern languages such as Java, C++, Go, or Python. 
  • Experience designing and building large-scale distributed or cloud systems. 
  • Experience with observability, testing, CI/CD, and production operations. 
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and architecture skills. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with incident management, SRE, or cloud operations. 
  • Experience applying AI, LLMs, or agentic systems to automation workflows. 
  • Strong communication, leadership, and cross-functional influence. 
  • Experience mentoring engineers and driving organization-wide technical improvements. 
  • Experience with OCI or other large-scale cloud platforms.
As a member of the software engineering division, you will take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures. Define specifications for significant new projects and specify, design and develop software according to those specifications. You will perform professional software development tasks associated with the developing, designing and debugging of software applications or operating systems. Disclaimer:

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $135,200 to $306,400 per annum. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.


Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle's differing products, industries and lines of business.
Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

8. Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
