Accountabilities:

    As the Engineering Manager – Database Reliability, you will lead the strategy, execution, and growth of database reliability initiatives while supporting a globally distributed engineering team.

    • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of database reliability engineers through coaching, performance management, career development, and technical guidance.
    • Support engineers in designing, maintaining, and evolving reliable, scalable, and high-performance database systems across multiple environments.
    • Drive operational excellence by improving incident response processes, postmortems, capacity planning, load testing, and reliability practices.
    • Partner with infrastructure, product, security, and engineering teams to deliver database platform improvements and reliability-focused solutions.
    • Establish and promote best practices for database monitoring, cost optimization, performance tuning, replication, backups, migrations, and disaster recovery.
    • Oversee mission-critical production databases and ensure systems are prepared to support rapid growth and increasing user demand.
    • Participate in hiring efforts by identifying staffing needs, designing interview processes, evaluating candidates, and helping grow the engineering organization.
    • Help define and strengthen database reliability culture, standards, and long-term technical strategy.
    • Requirements:

      The ideal candidate brings strong engineering leadership experience, deep database expertise, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-growing, distributed environment.

      • At least 5 years of experience managing engineering teams focused on databases, storage, infrastructure, or related reliability domains.
      • Demonstrated experience leading people through coaching, mentorship, performance evaluations, and career growth initiatives.
      • Strong project management skills, including prioritization, roadmap execution, deadline management, and cross-functional communication.
      • Experience designing and improving engineering processes such as on-call rotations, incident management, postmortems, capacity planning, and operational workflows.
      • Proven experience running mission-critical databases in production, including replication, backups, migrations, high availability, and disaster recovery.
      • Strong knowledge of database technologies, particularly PostgreSQL and distributed database systems such as CockroachDB.
      • Experience working with Kubernetes, container orchestration, and cloud infrastructure environments (preferably GCP).
      • Ability to work effectively in globally distributed teams and collaborate across multiple technical disciplines.
      • Experience hiring and scaling engineering teams, including defining hiring plans and evaluating technical talent.
      • Willingness to travel internationally approximately once per year for team collaboration and user-focused learning.
      • Availability to work within a timezone between GMT-1 and GMT+3.
