Metrology And Calibration Engineer - Senior
We are looking for a talented Metrology And Calibration Engineer – Senior to join our team specializing in quality for our Cummins’ business in Columbus, IN.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
Design and implement robust calibration and measurement processes that ensure accuracy, reliability, and compliance across all equipment and testing activities
Lead advanced Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA), applying statistical methods to validate precision, traceability, and overall system capability
Analyze calibration and testing data to identify trends, diagnose issues, and recommend data-driven improvements to optimize performance
Provide expert consultation on complex metrology challenges, guiding teams toward effective, technically sound solutions
Develop and deploy specialized measurement and testing equipment to enhance capability, efficiency, and accuracy
Establish and lead equipment capability studies to ensure systems meet performance requirements and support product quality standards
Deliver technical training and mentorship to technicians and engineers, strengthening team expertise and consistency in calibration practices
Ensure compliance with laboratory quality standards while managing specialized software tools that support data analysis, automation, and process control
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
Apply systems thinking and measurement science expertise to design reliable test systems, understand end-to-end measurement processes, and ensure accurate, traceable results across all metrology disciplines
Translate requirements into effective test system designs by selecting and integrating appropriate equipment, instrumentation, and software aligned to customer and regulatory needs
Strengthen problem-solving and process execution by leveraging data-driven methodologies to identify root causes, improve calibration processes, and prevent recurrence of issues
Communicate clearly and focus on the customer through strong technical documentation, knowledge sharing, and collaboration, while valuing diverse perspectives to enhance innovation and outcomes
Education/Experience:
- College, university, or equivalent degree in Physics or Engineering or a related technical or scientific subject required.
- This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
- Intermediate level of relevant work experience, including team leadership experience, required.
Additional Details:
- This person will be responsible for managing GCC (Gage Control Center), DMC (Dimensional Metrology Center) and measurement equipment at Fuel Systems Columbus Plant with the team of DWU and OCU as direct reports on all 3 shifts.
- Previous CMM programming, GD&T Understanding and Metrology experience preferred.
