The Role

As a Computer Scientist, you will work alongside experienced engineers to build and improve core features in Lightroom. You will contribute to architecture discussions, write high-quality C++ code, and grow your skills across performance, reliability, and cross-platform desktop development. This is a hands-on engineering role with real ownership from day one.

What You’ll Do

  • Contribute to the design and implementation of features across Lightroom.
  • Write clean, well-tested C++ code for cross-platform desktop systems.
  • Participate in architecture and design discussions, bringing fresh perspectives and sound technical thinking.
  • Explore and apply emerging technologies where they deliver real value for customers or the engineering team.
  • Work closely with Product Management, Design, and Research to understand customer needs and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Collaborate with engineers across teams to ship features that are reliable, performant, and maintainable.
  • Help investigate and resolve production issues, contributing to long-term preventive improvements.
  • Hold a high bar for performance, reliability, security, and maintainability in the code you write and review.
  • Contribute to improvements in application startup time, responsiveness, and memory efficiency.
  • Follow and help improve team standards around testing, observability, CI/CD, and release quality.
  • Adopt AI-assisted software engineering tools to work more effectively and share what you learn with your team.
  • Learn from and pair with senior engineers, absorbing technical depth across the codebase.
  • Contribute to a culture of engineering excellence through thoughtful code reviews and knowledge sharing.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong proficiency in C++, with a solid understanding of multithreading and systems programming.

  • Familiarity with software architecture and design principles for desktop or complex applications.
  • Understanding of performance engineering, memory management, debugging, and profiling.
  • Experience building or contributing to reliable, commercial-quality software products.
  • Awareness of secure software development practices.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools in day-to-day engineering work.
  • Ability to communicate technical ideas clearly in code, documentation, and team discussions.
  • Comfortable working with partners across engineering, product, and design.
  • Eager to give and receive feedback, and to grow through mentorship.
  • B.Tech/M.Tech in Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4–6 years of software engineering experience in a professional setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing on Mac and/or Windows platforms.
  • Exposure to graphics, imaging, GPU acceleration, or multimedia applications.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, or observability tooling.
  • Experience working in distributed or globally located teams.
