Senior Data Engineer (Reconciliation & Controls)
Hey! We’re Plum, your smart saving and investing app on a mission to help grow money for life. Whether you’re stashing the cash for tea and toast in your first home or catching some rays during retirement, Plum’s got your back.
Since 2016, over 2 million people in 10 European markets have set aside more than £2 billion with our clever automation and AI – that’s the magic of Plum! As recognition for our work, we’ve received awards from the likes of Deloitte, Finder, and more.
That’s all down to our passionate team of 200+ Plumsters, who work around Europe to help us achieve our mission. And now we’re looking for more brilliant people to join us on our journey.
The Role
Plum is reaching a pivotal moment in our growth. As we approach CASS Large Firm classification, the manual, spreadsheet-heavy processes that served us in our early stages are no longer fit for purpose.
We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to architect and build our next-generation Reconciliation & Controls Platform.
This is not a reporting role. You will own the entire lifecycle of our financial integrity systems, moving us from fragmented, manual workflows to a hardened, automated, and audit-ready infrastructure. You will be the bridge between complex engineering and regulatory rigor; designing and deploying dedicated reconciliation tooling to standardise our data control frameworks, enhance auditability, and ensure long-term operational resilience.
What You Will Do
- Design and implement robust ETL/ELT workflows that replace manual spreadsheet‑based reconciliations with scalable, monitored, and fully automated processes.
- Continuously optimise system architecture to onboard new product models and partner providers smoothly without adding operational overhead.
- Build and maintain automated reporting pipelines that meet EU & UK regulatory and audit requirements, ensuring consistent, traceable, and fully auditable outputs.
- Decouple core reconciliation logic from the BI layer to ensure operational stability independent of reporting tools or analytics infrastructure changes.
- Develop intelligent alerting, break classification, and exception‑routing workflows that prioritise issues by materiality and provide full traceability for stakeholders.
- Iterate and refine data pipelines based on operational feedback to constantly improve system performance, data quality, and reliability.
Who you are
- 3+ years in Data Engineering or a similar backend data infrastructure role.
- Strong SQL and Python skills; hands-on experience with BigQuery or a comparable cloud data warehouse.
- Experience designing and operating ELT workflows with tools such as Airflow and dbt.
- Experience with financial data reconciliation processes (breaks, exception management, and control frameworks) is highly preferred.
- Experience building systems that meet audit, regulatory, or compliance requirements.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with Finance, Compliance, Product, and Engineering teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Familiarity with GCP and Terraform is a plus.
- Experience developing internal platforms or full-stack applications is a plus.
