Accountabilities:
- Establish and maintain technical art best practices for asset creation, optimization, implementation, and content workflows.
- Develop custom tools, automation solutions, and editor extensions using Unreal Engine and digital content creation applications such as Maya and Houdini.
- Act as the primary technical art partner between art, engineering, design, and production teams to align creative goals with technical execution.
- Define and support technical art strategies that improve production efficiency, scalability, and content quality.
- Identify workflow challenges and production bottlenecks, implementing solutions that enhance team productivity.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, workflows, and Unreal Engine capabilities to support project objectives.
- Mentor technical artists and contribute to a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and innovation.
- Support artists with technical implementation, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
- Collaborate with rendering and gameplay engineers to improve visual features and development workflows.
- Ensure assets are optimized for multiplayer gameplay and target platforms.
- Analyze and resolve performance issues related to rendering, memory usage, shaders, streaming, and content budgets.
- Promote strong cross-functional collaboration and help teams work effectively toward shared development goals.
- 8+ years of professional experience as a Technical Artist in the gaming industry.
- Previous experience leading or mentoring a technical art team.
- Experience shipping at least one AAA or high-quality AA game title on PC and/or console platforms.
- Strong experience creating custom tools and pipeline solutions for Unreal Engine, Maya, Houdini, or similar DCC applications.
- Advanced knowledge of Unreal Engine 5, including Blueprints, Materials, Niagara, asset management, and optimization workflows.
- Strong understanding of physically based rendering (PBR), linear workflows, shader development, and real-time rendering techniques.
- Proficiency with programming or scripting languages such as C++, HLSL, Python, or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of game engine performance profiling and optimization methodologies.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
- Experience developing and shipping multiplayer game titles.
- Experience with procedural content generation workflows and Houdini Engine.
- Experience exploring new technologies and applying innovative solutions to game development challenges.
- Competitive compensation range of $180,000 - $210,000 CAD annually, based on experience, skills, and alignment with role requirements.
