TD Asset Management is looking for a Research Associate to join our Quantitative Research team in Montreal or Toronto. The candidate will be responsible for the research, development, testing, implementation, and the maintenance of the quantitative equity return forecasting (alpha) models. They will also potentially assist the risk forecasting process, the development of new products and the client reporting. The candidate will use a variety of quantitative techniques: from traditional statistical methods to factor modeling and advanced machine learning. The role requires strong teamwork and the ability to perform effectively under pressure in a fast-paced, working environment with attention to details.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply specialized skills and fundamental data science methods such as predictive factor modeling, time series forecast or deep learning, to build new equity returns forecasting models.
  • Properly test, document, and vet the models as per regulatory and audit requirements.
  • Continuously monitor the model performance for each strategy based on market conditions.
  • Periodically review the existing alpha models and make changes if necessary.
  • Work closely with the data team, portfolio managers, and risk management team to investigate and fix issues with the alpha models as an important component in the quant investment process.
  • Support the client portfolio and relationship management teams for ad-hoc analysis.
  • Make internal or external presentations to colleagues, consultants, and clients.
  • Write research articles or white papers.

Job Requirements

We are looking for a recent university graduate with a strong technical and quantitative expertise, a propensity for teamwork, and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Master or Ph. D in Finance, Economics or in a related quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Physics, Engineering, etc. (e.g., MSc, MBA, or MA).
  • Excellent programming skills using Python and related packages.
  • Working knowledge of agentic AI systems, including the ability to design, deploy, and effectively leverage AI agents to automate workflows, support decision-making, and enhance productivity.
  • Ability to write complex queries to extract and transform data from a SQL server.
  • Strong knowledge of financial markets, especially equities.
  • Solid knowledge of stochastic calculus, time series, probability theory, and statistics.

Additional relevant skills

  • Financial experience: factor models, econometrics, fundamental analysis, portfolio optimization.
  • Academic or industry training in AI, machine learning, or deep learning.
  • Programming experience with MATLAB or R.
  • Knowledge of risk models such as BARRA, APT, Northfield, Axioma etc. and risk metrics and methods such as VaR and stress testing models.
  • Familiarity with Visual Studio Code (VS Code) and GitHub.
  • CFA designation or working towards obtaining it.
  • Bilingual (English/French)
