The Manager, Security Services supports the Director, Security Services in the development, implementation, and management of physical security programs designed to protect American Express facilities, employees, contractors, visitors, customers, and assets. This role is responsible for overseeing day-to-day security operations, managing contract security personnel, conducting investigations, supporting emergency response activities, and ensuring compliance with established security policies and procedures.
As a key member of the security leadership team, the Manager serves as a trusted advisor to business leaders and stakeholders on security-related matters and may act on behalf of the Director, Security Services during emergencies or in their absence. The position requires strong leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to make timely decisions in a dynamic environment. This role is on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

  • Support the Director, Security Services in the oversight and administration of all physical security operations for assigned facilities.
  • Coordinate and provide effective security coverage through the co-management of an outsourced security workforce.
  • Directly supervise security supervisors, officers, and administrative support staff.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing and security coverage for daily operations, special events, and emergency situations.
  • Provide leadership and operational direction during security incidents and emergencies.
  • Assist the Director, Security Services in developing, communicating, implementing, and enforcing security policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Ensure security personnel are fully informed of security policies, procedures, techniques, and emergency response protocols through training and ongoing communications.
  • Support security risk assessments of existing and proposed facilities and assist in developing and implementing appropriate security measures.
  • Manage the employee and contractor identification badge program, including photo capture, data entry, access authorization, and physical access controls.
  • Supervise and coordinate investigations related to security incidents, including thefts, suspicious activities, bomb threats, workplace violence cases, and other security breaches.
  • Assign investigative responsibilities and monitor progress to ensure timely and effective resolution.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reporting related to incidents, investigations, and corrective actions.
  • Support crisis management and business continuity efforts during emergency situations.
  • Provide executive protection support for visiting American Express senior leadership.
  • Coordinate emergency response activities and support leadership decision-making during critical incidents.
  • Act independently and make effective decisions during emergencies when the Director, Security Services or other Global Security leaders are unavailable.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to ensure effective coordination and support.
  • Partner closely with Facilities teams to ensure appropriate security coverage and security program effectiveness.
  • Build trusted relationships with Center Heads, Country Managers, Business Unit Leaders, and other key stakeholders to promote security awareness and compliance.
  • Prepare and deliver statistical, operational, and administrative reports regarding security operations, incidents, trends, and emerging risks.
  • Keep leadership informed of significant security issues and recommended mitigation strategies.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to enhance security operations and programs.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Thorough understanding of physical security operations, access control systems, investigations, security technologies, and emergency response procedures.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing security operations and contract security personnel.
  • Strong investigative, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess situations quickly and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to effectively interact with all levels of management and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to build strong partnerships with business leaders, Facilities teams, law enforcement agencies, and other key stakeholders.
  • Ability to influence and gain support for security policies, procedures, and emergency preparedness initiatives.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment during emergencies and other high-risk situations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in corporate security, law enforcement, military, investigations, executive protection, or a related field.
  • Experience conducting workplace violence investigations and threat assessments.
  • Professional security certifications

Additional Requirements

  • Availability to respond to security incidents and emergencies on a 24/7/365 basis.
  • Ability to travel as required.
  • Must be capable of operating independently and making critical decisions in the absence of the Director, Security Services or other members of the Global Security leadership team.
