Join our team and help shape the future of Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance (CNS) systems. As an Senior Electrical Engineer you’ll play a key role in supporting and advancing Collins’ traffic and weather‑related avionics products. In this role, you’ll work closely with a small team of experienced electrical engineers, taking ownership of complex hardware challenges across both sustaining engineering and new design activities.

You’ll apply your expertise to ensure our products continue to meet stringent aviation standards while helping shape future upgrades and enhancements. This position offers the opportunity to influence technical direction, collaborate across multiple engineering disciplines, and contribute to the success of both ongoing programs and new business pursuits.

This is an onsite position in Melbourne, Florida.

What You Will Do:

  • Interpret, generate, and update complex electrical schematics, board layouts, and mechanical drawings.
  • Develop and document hardware requirement changes while managing hardware baselines through proper tools and processes.
  • Design, analyze, test, qualify, integrate, and document high‑complexity hardware, including work across multiple Engineering Change Orders.
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical, systems, and manufacturing engineering to ensure cohesive product development.
  • Apply Collins processes, tools, and best practices to drive product quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Participate in integration, pre‑qualification, and qualification testing for moderate‑complexity products and subsystems.
  • Support production teams, troubleshoot issues, and provide technical leadership as needed.
  • Contribute to engineering estimates for electrical design efforts and support bid/schedule development.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in at least one hardware domain, with broad generalist capabilities across multiple areas.
  • Support LRU development activities, tailoring internal processes and tools as needed.
  • Monitor and resolve component obsolescence issues on assigned products.
  • Review defect trends, identify root causes, and recommend design or process improvements.
  • Proactively identify and communicate technical issues, escalating to project leadership when necessary.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
  • Must be a U.S. Person – Military contract stipulates the candidates must be U.S. Persons.
  • Proven experience in an electrical design engineering role.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate schematics and board layouts.
  • Experience with embedded processors and RF systems.
  • Hands‑on experience debugging and testing complex electrical hardware.
  • Extensive experience in at least one electrical hardware discipline such as digital, analog, mixed-signal, power, or RF design.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Understanding of aviation qualification standards (DO‑160, DO‑254, and TSO processes).
  • Experience working with Air Transport OEMs on development programs.
  • Knowledge of avionics traffic and weather systems.
  • Familiarity with signal‑processing simulation and analysis tools such as MATLAB or Simulink.
  • Experience with configuration management tools (Agile, JIRA, Git, Subversion).

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
