Mayo Clinic is seeking an innovative and accomplished physician leader to serve as the Chair of the Department of Critical Care Medicine at our academic medical center in Jacksonville, Florida. 

The Chair will provide strategic leadership across clinical practice, research, and education, advancing Mayo Clinic’s mission to deliver unparalleled patient care while shaping the future of critical care medicine. This individual will oversee the growth and evolution of a multidisciplinary department, driving excellence in outcomes, innovation, and organizational performance. 

  

Position Highlights 

The Chair of Critical Care Medicine will: 

  • Develop and execute a bold vision and strategic plan to grow and innovate the department 
  • Drive excellence across Mayo Clinic’s three shields: Practice, Research, and Education  
  • Ensure delivery of exceptional, patient-centered critical care outcomes 
  • Lead recruitment, development, and retention of world-class faculty 
  • Foster interdisciplinary collaboration across specialties including pulmonary, anesthesia, surgery, and subspecialty ICUs 
  • Advance clinical innovation, including digital health, AI, and emerging critical care technologies 
  • Strengthen the department’s academic mission through scholarly activity and program development 
  • Partner with institutional leadership to meet operational, financial, and growth objectives

Ideal Candidate Profile 

  • MD or DO with board certification in Critical Care Medicine
  • Eligible for Florida medical licensure 
  • Academic rank of Associate Professor or higher preferred
  • Demonstrated record of leadership in an academic medical center or large healthcare system 
  • Proven ability to build and lead high-performing, multidisciplinary teams 
  • Established record of scholarly activity, research, and/or educational leadership 
  • Strong commitment to mentorship and faculty development 
  • Recognized as a leader and innovator in critical care medicine 
  • Ability to collaborate across complex systems and build national/international partnerships
