Mechanical Engineering Owner’s Representative (Data Centre)

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Engineer with a minimum of 10 years of experience in designing, planning, and managing mechanical systems for data centre new development and infrastructure fit-out projects.

You will serve as the Owner’s Representative, providing independent technical oversight and advisory services throughout the project lifecycle—from design through commissioning. Your role is critical in ensuring constructability, code compliance, system performance, and alignment with the owner’s operational and sustainability objectives.

You’ll be comfortable working with diverse teams, a self-starter, highly motivated, and possess excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills to deliver mission-critical results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design, develop, and implement mechanical systems for newbuild data centres, adhering to industry standards (e.g., ASHRAE, NFPA, local codes) and best practices.
  • Prepare and review mechanical engineering specifications, technical drawings, and construction documents, including HVAC system designs, piping layouts, and equipment schedules.
  • Evaluate and select mechanical equipment (e.g., chillers, cooling towers, CRAC/CRAH units, pumps, AHUs) based on reliability, efficiency, redundancy, and lifecycle cost.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, energy modeling, and lifecycle cost analyses to optimize system performance and support sustainability goals.
  • Perform detailed HVAC load calculations, airflow simulations, and thermal analysis to ensure adequate cooling capacity and airflow management.
  • Provide technical oversight during construction: review contractor submittals, respond to RFIs, attend coordination meetings, and conduct site inspections to verify compliance with design intent and mechanical codes.
  • Support commissioning activities—including functional performance testing, TAB (Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing), and issue resolution—to validate system readiness and performance.
  • Advise on plumbing, fire protection (sprinkler/deluge), and domestic water systems as integrated components of data centre infrastructure.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies (e.g., liquid cooling, thermal storage, AI-driven controls) and apply innovations to improve resilience and efficiency.

Requirements:

  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).
  • Valid work authorization in the local region.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field;
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience in mechanical systems for mission-critical facilities, particularly data centres (newbuild and fit-out).
  • Deep expertise in HVAC, chilled water systems, pumping systems, piping design, and fire protection systems.
  • Proficiency with engineering and collaboration tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Procore).
  • Strong understanding of Tier III/IV design principles, redundancy strategies, and uptime requirements.
  • Knowledge of energy-efficient design, LEED, or other sustainability frameworks.
  • Excellent project management, problem-solving, and stakeholder communication skills.
