Who are we looking for?

We have an outstanding leadership opportunity for a US East Region Business Group Leader – Contamination Assessment and Remediation. 

As Business Group Leader (BGL) for the Contamination Assessment and Remediation business, you will work closely with the Region’s General Manager, Operation Manager and Environment Market Leaders and be accountable for revenue and growth targets, team utilization, quality, staff development and project performance of the Business Group. You will also maintain and develop client relationships and a high performing team.  As the BGL, you will also lead business development to help develop and grow GHD’s presence and market share in the delivery of scientific, engineering and design services.

We work collaboratively with our private and public sector clients to guide effective land management decision-making and to deliver practical and appropriate project solutions. 

Working on a diverse range of projects and clients, your responsibilities will include: 

  • In consultation with the Region General Manager, Operations Manager and Environmental Market Leaders, the Business Group Leader will develop, support, and execute on business strategies and opportunities, and be accountable for the sustainable growth of environmental services, meeting established metrics for the team’s portfolio. 
  • A proven leader running an environmental business managing to financial budgets, KPIs and ability to forecast a forward-looking view of the business. 
  • Manage the allocation of people to projects, foster clear communication and project leadership within the Business Group. 
  • Manage and report on the performance of the Business Group; set appropriate performance objectives for direct reports and hold individuals accountable for achieving them; take appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of annual business objectives.
  • Ensure the smooth delivery of projects, manage, and monitor project outcomes, troubleshooting issues as they arise, liaise with clients to forge long term relationships, and manage expectations internally and externally. 
  • Develop and mentor employees within the group to resource the current and future requirements of projects, considering both project needs and employee career aspirations. 
  • Develop and gain agreement to annual business plans for Business Group, ensuring alignment with strategy; quantify business outcomes, i.e., revenues or other key performance indicators (KPIs); and develop business cases for key projects, ensuring cross-functional integration.
  • Communicate the Business Group’s strategy and its relationship to the US East Region, the organization's mission, vision, and values; clarify the actions needed to implement this strategy within the area of responsibility; motivate people to commit to the mission, vision, and values and do extraordinary things to achieve the organization's business goals 
  • Develop meaningful connections and influencing positive outcomes, building, and developing relationships with the other BGLs to collaborate and share resources where feasible, and supporting relationships with existing and potential clients and partners. 
  • Providing leadership to the Business Group in line with GHD’s values and objectives. 
  • Building effective relationships with other Regional Environmental Business Group Leaders and Market Leaders outside of the Region to create local opportunities for the Region and achieve established revenue growth targets. 

About you: 

You will have Operational Management and Project Management experience in delivery of complex projects and a foundational technical background in engineering and design project delivery.   

What you will bring to the team: 

  • 15+ years professional experience within an engineering consultancy firm with at least 8 or more years in a leadership role, managing, leading and mentoring others
  • PE, PG, or equivalent designation
  • LSRP, LEP, LSP, or similar designation
  • Effective & proven project delivery, networking, and relationship management skills
  • Experience leading teams through change; operates as a professional to demonstrate a change mindset as well as plan, execute and monitor activities during times of change whilst keeping performance levels up
  • Previous experience and familiarity with P&L management responsibilities.  Interprets and applies key financial indicators to make better business decisions
  • Ability to develop lasting internal and external relationships based on trust and delivery excellence
  • Proven background in delivering projects from proposal to completion
  • Detailed knowledge of various types of delivery methods for various markets 
  • Ability to mentor and train team members
  • Provide project delivery leadership, in the delivery of engineering and design services and supporting all project phases
  • Proficiency in Microsoft tools, and aptitude to learn and use other business systems and applications (i.e. PowerBI, BST10, etc.)

GHD will reimburse 50% of the cost of the following to maximum of $250.00 reimbursement annually for such items as: Health club membership fees, Home exercise equipment purchases, Bicycles, Race, run & marathon entrance fees, Smoking cessation programs, Weight loss programs (i.e.—Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig), Fitbits and Fitness Tracking devices

Salary Range: $144,000 - $287,000 based on experience and location
