JOB SUMMARY:

The Muskegon Toolmaker uses Siemens NX CAD models and engineering blueprints to manufacture, repair, and assemble work holding fixtures, gage details, and related components into fully functional assemblies, maintaining required tolerances (typically +/- 0.0005) while meeting established timing and cost expectations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate CNC Wire EDM and Vertical Machining Center equipment, along with traditional toolroom machines such as manual vertical mills and surface grinders, to manufacture, modify, and repair fixtures and gages.
  • Use CAD and CAM software to support tooling design, programming, and manufacturing activities.
  • Read and interpret engineering blueprints, assembly drawings, and technical specifications to ensure accurate fabrication and assembly.
  • Produce tooling and gaging components that meet required quality standards, dimensional tolerances, and functional requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Journeyman Toolmaker certification required.
  • Available to work the off-shift schedule.
  • Working knowledge of tooling, gaging, fixtures, and inventory control practices.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methods, including 5S and standard work.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to support Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC) objectives.

DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Proficiency in Siemens NX software.
  • Experience with 3D printing and additive manufacturing applications.
  • Troubleshooting skills in pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Experience operating CNC lathes.
  • At least 12 months of experience building aerospace tooling.

This role may encounter high risk or hazardous operations, working with chemicals, and/or include working shifts beyond a standard workweek. As such, a requirement of the role is to be at least 18 years of age by the time of joining.
