Accountabilities
- Design original graduate-level computational problems that evaluate AI systems on advanced scientific and engineering workflows.
- Develop realistic research scenarios involving Bayesian statistics, applied mathematics, numerical simulations, optimization, and related computational methods.
- Create problem setups, Python-based validation scripts, oracle functions, and evaluation criteria to accurately assess AI-generated solutions.
- Test problems against advanced AI models, analyze results, and iteratively refine tasks to achieve the desired level of complexity and difficulty.
- Utilize specialized scientific software and libraries to build authentic research-grade computational challenges.
- Ensure problem quality, reproducibility, and technical accuracy while maintaining clear documentation throughout the development process.
- Collaborate with project stakeholders by incorporating feedback and continuously improving benchmark quality and effectiveness.
- Master's degree, PhD, or equivalent research experience in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or another relevant STEM discipline.
- Strong hands-on experience with at least one specialized scientific library such as PyMC, PyStan, PyJAGS, CmdStanPy, FEniCS, FEniCSx, DOLFINx, scikit-fem, FiPy, Devito, Dedalus, GUDHI, DACEyPy, lmfit, or comparable research tools.
- Practical expertise in areas such as Bayesian modeling, MCMC, finite element or finite difference methods, computational topology, differential algebra, optimization, or related computational mathematics techniques.
- Advanced Python programming skills with experience building research software, simulations, or computational workflows.
- Demonstrated research, open-source, or professional experience applying computational methods to solve complex scientific problems.
- Ability to work independently, iterate on technical designs, and incorporate feedback effectively.
- Comfortable working in Linux environments and remote computational sandboxes.
- Availability to contribute approximately 15–20 hours per week.
- Experience with benchmark development, scientific teaching, computational reproducibility, containerized environments, or multiple scientific domains is considered a strong advantage.
- Fully remote contractor position with flexible working hours.
- Competitive hourly compensation ranging from $70–$100 USD per hour.
