MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT

As a Fabrication Shop Laborer, the work you’ll do at GDIT directly supports the mission of the US Navy by ensuring materials are accurately prepared and delivered for critical fabrication tasks. You will play a crucial role in keeping production on schedule, maintaining quality, and enabling the team to meet tight mission timelines.
  • Support fabrication operations by safely loading, transporting, and delivering materials to designated work areas.
  • Cut materials to specification using shop tools and equipment, following drawings, cut lists, and instructions.
  • Measure accurately using a tape measure and other basic measurement tools to ensure precise cuts and minimal material waste.
  • Apply material knowledge by identifying and handling different material types (e.g., steel, aluminum, tubing, plate) appropriately.
  • Collaborate with fabricators and welders to prioritize work, resolve material issues, and ensure the right materials are in the right place at the right time.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment by organizing stock, staging material, and following all safety procedures.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

Bring your fabrication shop and material-handling experience, along with attention to detail and a strong work ethic, to GDIT. The Fabrication Shop Laborer must have:
  • Education: High School Diploma/GED
  • Experience: 1+ years of experience in a fabrication shop, warehouse, or similar industrial environment
  • Technical skills:
    • Proficient use of a tape measure and basic hand tools
    • Ability to read and follow basic shop drawings, cut lists, or work orders
    • Familiarity with common metal/material types and sizes
    • Experience with saws or cutting equipment (preferred)
  • Role requirements: Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, work in a fabrication shop environment, and comply with all safety and PPE requirements. Onsite work required.
