Tooling Technician — Injection Molding
About the Role
We're hiring a Tooling Technician to maintain molds, machines, and auxiliary equipment in an injection molding manufacturing environment. This role plays a key part in meeting quality and customer requirements by keeping equipment running reliably and efficiently.
What You'll Do
- Support the transfer and installation of new molds, resins, and machinery
- Clean, repair, and overhaul hot runner systems, molds, components, machines, and auxiliary equipment
- Prepare molds, bases, and inserts to meet changeover schedules
- Complete preventive maintenance protocols using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
- Start up, shut down, and operate injection molding machines
- Support the development of apprentices and technical specialists
- Provide verbal updates on work status, technical issues, and solutions during shift change meetings
- Participate in special projects as needed
- Provide absentee coverage for Process Specialists and Mold Technicians
- Maintain a safe, environmentally compliant work environment per company procedures and standards
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 3 years of relevant injection molding mold, machine, and auxiliary equipment repair experience in an industrial/manufacturing setting
- High school diploma or GED required
- Completion of a DOL-approved apprenticeship in plastics manufacturing technology or a tool and die program preferred
- 2-year degree in Manufacturing or Engineering-related field a plus
- Knowledge of mold repair, overhaul, modification, and preventive maintenance
- Knowledge of hot runner systems repair and setup
- Knowledge of plastics technology (screws, barrels, material delivery systems, temperature control units, grinders, dryers, separators)
- Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and power transmission systems
- Ability to read mold design drawings and specifications
- Technical skills in precision measuring, blueprint reading, and use of department tools/equipment (including English/Metric conversion)
- Basic computer skills
Special Requirements
- Flexibility to work overtime, including weekends
- Minimal US and international travel required
