The Lead – Infrastructure Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, leading, and governing enterprise‑scale infrastructure automation that enables secure, resilient, and standardized operations across Windows, UNIX/Linux, virtualization, and hybrid cloud platforms.

This role exists to reduce operational toil, eliminate manual lifecycle activities, and accelerate platform delivery through policy‑driven, reusable, and auditable automation aligned to enterprise security and governance standards

The role operates within a central automation enablement model, providing technical leadership across multiple infrastructure domains and collaborating closely with platform engineering, operations, security, and architecture teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently Lead the design strategy, development, planning, coordination and deployment of complex infrastructure automation tools and technologies

  • Design and implement industry standard, best practices, automation frameworks, patterns, and reusable modules across platforms and teams.

  • Drive adoption of Ansible / AAP / AWX‑based orchestration, integrating with CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure‑as‑Code models.

  • IT App ownership for one of the platforms and services (e.g., Ansible Automation Platform, AWX, lifecycle automation frameworks).

  • Ensure automation solutions are resilient, secure, scalable, and auditable, aligned with platform criticality and regulatory requirements.

  • Partner with security teams to embed policy‑as‑code, hardening standards, and compliance checks into automation workflows.

  • Delivery of Projects and Pipeline within Automation Function

  • Act as technical lead and reviewer for automation designs, pull requests, and production deployments.

  • Mentor and guide Infra Automation Engineers, raising overall engineering maturity and consistency.

  • Provide Level‑3 escalation support for complex automation failures and platform‑wide incidents.

  • Work with infrastructure platform owners, operations teams, and product owners to identify high‑value automation use cases.

  • Contribute to TOIL reporting, value realization, and cost‑benefit analysis for automation initiatives

Key Skills & Experience

  • Strong hands‑on experience with Ansible, Ansible Automation Platform (AAP), AWX, Terraform and automation orchestration.

  • Advanced scripting capability in Python, PowerShell, Bash (or equivalent).

  • Experience automating Windows and UNIX/Linux infrastructure at scale.

  • Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, Git‑based version control, IaC concepts, and automation testing practices

  • Ability to lead by example, mentor engineers, and influence without direct authority.

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills for diagnosing complex, cross‑platform automation issues.

  • Excellent documentation and communication skills, able to articulate technical solutions to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

  • 8–12+ years of infrastructure engineering or automation experience, with demonstrable leadership in enterprise automation initiatives.
