Principal Engineer TL/M - Software Development (PaaS)
WHO WE ARE:
Aviatrix® is pioneering the Cloud Native Security Fabric — the architecture the Containment Era requires. The Cloud Native Security Fabric governs every workload communication path across every cloud, every VPC, every Kubernetes cluster, and every serverless function, from a single policy plane. One rule. Universal propagation. Enforced at the workload, not at a chokepoint. Trusted by more than 500 of the world's leading enterprises. For more information, visit aviatrix.ai.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
Aviatrix Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) delivers the intelligence, advanced network and security services of Aviatrix’s multi-cloud network platform as a managed offering.
We are seeking a hands-on Principal Engineer TL/M - Software Development to join our PaaS team. In this role, you will lead a team of engineers while also contributing to technical execution — defining designs, driving key features, and writing code alongside your team. You will balance engineering leadership with individual technical contributions, owning both people management responsibilities and product components. This is a Tech Lead/Manager (TL/M) role built for a builder who wants to grow as a people leader without leaving the craft behind.
Position Responsibilities:
- Define and drive next-generation designs for complex distributed systems using Kubernetes and cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP), contributing directly to code and architecture alongside your team.
- Own the end-to-end lifecycle (requirements, design, delivery, and operations) of key features of the PaaS product; break down large projects into executable sub-projects distributed across the team.
- Evaluate key engineering tradeoffs and make data-driven technical decisions that balance velocity, quality, and scalability.
- Write and present design proposals and technical documents that define complex problems and long-term solutions.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a small team of engineers; oversee hiring, career development, and performance management.
- Contribute to interviewing and recruiting efforts to attract and retain top engineering talent.
- Partner with product management to translate business priorities into a clear technical roadmap and execution plan.
- Foster a culture of accountability, technical excellence, diversity, equity, and respect.
- Represent the team in cross-functional forums, collaborating across engineering, product, and go-to-market functions.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including hands-on contributions to large-scale distributed systems.
- 3+ years in engineering leadership roles, with direct experience managing engineers and driving team outcomes.
- Strong knowledge of Golang and building gRPC-based microservices.
- Deep experience with Kubernetes and cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Domain experience in network routing and network security.
- Experience designing and operating a PaaS/SaaS product at scale.
- Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems.
- Strong understanding of elegant and robust API and system designs.
- Ability to write clean, testable, and maintainable code and hold a high bar for the team.
- Proven ability to deliver results in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; comfortable working with a geographically distributed team.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
