The Steam Generation Projects Instrumentation and Control Systems Engineering team is seeking a highly motivated Senior Engineer to lead and support critical projects that enhance the reliability, efficiency, and performance of Con Edisons steam generation assets. This role provides the opportunity to drive innovative engineering solutions, manage complex capital and maintenance projects, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support safe and reliable plant operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing instrumentation, control, and automation initiatives that contribute to the continued success of Con Edisons energy infrastructure while supporting the companys commitment to operational excellence, safety, and sustainability.

This position does not provide employment pursuant to the terms of a STEM OPT Training Plan.

Core Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Central Engineering, Steam Operations, and other stakeholders to support plant engineering and project objectives.
  • Provide engineering support for capital and maintenance projects, including project scoping, design, construction support, commissioning, and closeout activities.
  • Respond to Engineering Service Requests (ESRs) and support project development, technical studies, engineering analyses, and system evaluations.
  • Support the design, implementation, and maintenance of instrumentation, control, and process systems for power plant operations.
  • Develop and maintain control solutions for water treatment, feedwater, combustion, emissions, turbine/generator, and steam distribution systems.
  • Prepare, review, and approve engineering drawings, schematics, P&IDs, construction documents, and cost estimates.
  • Develop construction, equipment, and procurement specifications and evaluate vendor proposals and technical drawings.
  • Support project planning activities, including budgets, appropriations, concept reviews, field walks, and cost evaluations.
  • Develop operating, maintenance, testing, and commissioning procedures and system documentation.
  • Conduct field investigations, equipment evaluations, failure analyses, and root cause investigations to improve system reliability and performance.
  • Provide technical support during plant events, startup activities, troubleshooting efforts, and corrective action implementation.
  • Assist with the initiation, review, and follow-up of Engineering Service Requests (ESRs) and other engineering assignments.
Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in either Mechanical, Maritime, Electrical or Chemical Engineering and 3 years of engineering work experience, to include one year of Power Generation Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Process Engineering or Operations, or
  • Master's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical engineering (with a Bachelors degree in applied science (Physics, Chemistry) and 3 years of engineering work experience, to include one year of Power Generation Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Process Engineering or Operations.
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Master's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical engineering (with a Bachelors degree in applied science (Physics, Chemistry) and 3 years of engineering work experience, to include one year of Power Generation Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Process Engineering or Operations.
Relevant Work Experience
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, required.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with employees at all organizational levels, required.
  • Working knowledge of computer systems and engineering software applications, required.
  • Ability to lead initiatives independently and provide technical oversight and guidance to department personnel, required.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to balance multiple assignments and deliver timely results, required.
  • Knowledgeable in basic engineering design and principles, required.
  • Ability to write specifications and standards and coordinate engineering projects and assignments, preferred.
Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated analytical skills
  • Develops and delivers effective presentations
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, etc.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Driver's License Required
Physical Demands
  • Ability to respond to system emergencies
  • Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
  • Ability to work in adverse conditions that include, noise, confined spaces, and high elevations
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs
  • Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
  • Ability to work with, and in, the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems
  • Stand, walk, and climb ladders and stairs for the duration of the workday
  • Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
  • Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to travel both regionally and continent-wide, to attend conferences, meetings, etc. as needed.
