Surgical Coordinator | Surgery Oncology| Full Time| Days
Overview
Under the supervision of the Department Director, Ambulatory Administrator, or Office Manager, directs, coordinates and facilitates the surgical scheduling activities of all clinic physicians. Utilizes appropriate administrative, financial and operational policies and procedures to facilitate continuity of care for the surgical patient. Acts as liaison between the department and other surgical and financial areas.Responsibilities
Coordinates the scheduling of pre-operative appointments toinclude preadmission testing, history and physical, and otherassociated tests or services related to the surgical procedure.
Attends and actively listens and participates in the regularlyscheduled Referral Coordinator and/or Surgical Coordinatortraining sessions and meetings.
Instructs patients on administrative, financial and preoperativeprocesses.
Verifies insurance coverage, obtains authorization, submitsclinical information as required and communicates withpatient, vendors, surgeon and hospital abreast of the surgicalplan.
Provides excellent customer service forpatients/families/representatives and other members of thetreatment team.
Utilizes the internal surgical scheduling EPIC application andexternal scheduling processes.
Identifies and requests specialized equipment and/orpersonnel required by the physicians for performance of eachsurgical case.
Review reports to determine if procedures authorized matchprocedures performed. Reviews reports to determine ifauthorization is required for unscheduled surgeries performedafter hours.
Prepares reports as requested, educates staff members andphysicians in new processes, policies and procedures.
Participates as an active care team member in thecoordination of patient care.
Qualifications
Experience Requirements:
2 years - working in an Ambulatory Healthcare environment - required
2 years - customer service - required
2 years - working with third party payors (insurance carriers) required
Education:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent - required
Travel: Up to 10%
