Overview

Job Summary:The Interventional Radiology Coordinator is responsible for managing the scheduling, financial clearance, and communication processes for patients receiving Interventional Radiology (Radiology Specials) services. This role ensures patients are appropriately scheduled, financially cleared, and well-informed prior to their procedures while coordinating with clinical, coding, and financial teams to provide a seamless patient experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate scheduling for Interventional Radiology procedures, ensuring appointment dates, arrival times, and patient preparation instructions are communicated accurately.
  • Review insurance coverage and benefits to ensure financial clearance prior to services.
  • Verify that all required prior authorizations are obtained before scheduled procedures.
  • Collaborate with coding and financial representatives to develop accurate cost estimates for patients and insurance carriers when multiple services are planned.
  • Independently manage and maintain procedure schedules while coordinating the availability of anesthesia personnel to maximize efficiency and optimize patient flow.
  • Coordinate special patient needs and procedural requirements to ensure a positive and successful radiology experience.
  • Serve as the primary point of communication between patients, providers, coding staff, financial representatives, and other healthcare team members throughout the scheduling and pre-service process.
  • Ensure timely, accurate communication and coordination to support high-quality patient care, operational efficiency, and exceptional customer service.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and comply with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and patient confidentiality standards.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of one year of hospital or medical practice experience required, preferably in patient records or a related healthcare setting.
  • A four-year degree may substitute for two years of hospital or medical office experience.
  • Experience with the EPIC electronic health record (EHR) system preferred.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, basic anatomy, CPT coding, and ICD-9 coding preferred.
  • Familiarity with HIS, RMS, or other healthcare information systems preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with patients, physicians, clinics, and clinical/technical staff.
  • Excellent organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce high-quality, accurate work while meeting productivity expectations.
  • Ability to request, obtain, and communicate information effectively across multiple departments.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume healthcare environment.

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

  • None required.

Motor Vehicle Operator Designation:

  • This position requires operation of a vehicle for assigned business purposes as a non-frequent driver.
